Equally suited for an at-home cook as for a professional chef, this 11-piece knife set makes a useful addition to any busy kitchen. The high-quality knives feature precision-forged blades made of 440C German steel--a combination alloy made of high-carbon steel and stainless steel that sharpens easily, holds a razor-sharp cutting edge, and resists staining. Plus, the knives come sharpened all the way to the base of the blade where most cutting occurs, and their attractive Pakkawood triple-tang handles provide superior balance and an ergonomic grip for exceptional comfort and control. The set includes a 10-inch chef knife, a paring knife, a 6-inch utility knife, a Santoku knife, a bread knife, and an Asian cleaver with dimples, as well as an 8-inch carving knife, a meat fork, a meat cleaver, and a metal sharpening steel that helps keep all the blades in good working order. In addition, the set provides a large wooden block that not only showcases the collection, but also safely and securely stores the knives from one use to the next. Using the knives on bamboo cutting boards works the best since bamboo won't warp, crack, or split, and it's naturally anti-bacterial. To clean, hand wash the knives with warm water and a mild detergent, then rinse and dry immediately. The 11-piece knife set measures approximately 12 by 6 by 17 inches and carries a lifetime warranty.
The Gunter Wilhelm 11-piece Executive Chef set is the ideal set for the home owner or professional chef. It includes 1 honing steel, a 10-inch chef knife, butchers cleaver, a 6 inch utility knife, Asian Cleaver, paring knife, Santoku knife, offset bread, meat carver and meat fork. In the beginning, knives were made from High Carbon steel. This was because High Carbon Steel was easy to sharpen and held an edge really well. The problem was that High Carbon would turn black quickly and was not attractive. The problem with Stainless Steel knives is that while they look great, they don t hold an edge and are almost impossible to sharpen. Then someone in Solingen Germany came up with an alloy which is the mixture of two steels, high carbon and stainless steel. This new alloy, called 440 was the answer to the problem. 440 hold an edge really well and sharpens easily while being very stain resistant. There are two basic kinds of knives in the world. The first is stamped where the knives are made from sheet metal stamping and then attach plastic or wood handles to the tang. Stamped knives have no bolster, and do not have the weight, balance and durability of Forged Style knives. Forged style knives are typically made from one block of steel and always have a Bolster. The Bolster is the large metal area joining the blade with the handle. Forged knives have better weight and balance than Stamped Knives. The best knives such as Gunter Wilhelm, are all of the forged style.
