Purchased this safe as a nightstand pistol safe since I figured it would be easier to get into than a traditional combination safe in the dark. That might have been the case had the keypad not been faulty from the first time I plugged it in. Most of the time, 90-95% of the time, it takes a couple "technical taps" to get the keypad to register that your touching it. Other times a single press of a pad will result in several registered touches. And then came the beeping. Randomly every few hours it would let out a series of beeps, sometimes 2-3, other times upwards of 10-12. This thing has been a royal PITA. I ended up clipping the speaker wires after the manufacturer was absolutely NO help in helping me solve this problem, they refused to service it or replace the unit. I would never recommend this to anyone unless maybe I wanted to be sure they wouldn't have access to what they put in it when they needed it. I will be replacing this with a mechanical push button safe as soon as I have the disposable cash for it. I will probably throw it into a lake or something.

This product worked well for 14 months--it was covered by a 12 month warranty. At that time the lock release for the keypad quit working. The company offered to replace the unit for $80. For the price of this unit I expected it to last much longer. The original batteries have lasted longer than the safe.

Well, I didn't realize there were two types of safe, with identical sku numbers. there is a 4 push button safe, and a biometric safe. of each, there is the regular and deluxe. In a nutshell, there are 4 types. Anyway, I thought I was buying the biometric safe, but instead I bought the 4 push button. Before returning, I played around with it and realize, I prefer this one. Its a great safe. Inside is well insulated. Predrilled holes for mounting on bottom, back and side. you can plug in the unit to power and also battery. you must use the battery, cause if you take the power out and plug back in, the unit will reset to default code. Once the battery is in, it uses outlet power and keeps memory with the battery. The deluxe version brags of a light inside the safe.. Total crap.. lights sucks. But I don't care for that anyway. Construction is rugged and strong, safe is well built. Ohh, it even has a funny alarm, once arm if someone messes with it it'll go off.. the horn is pretty annoying....

I've had my Gunvault safe for about a month now and have had not problems with it. I read some earlier reviews about constant beeping and difficult set up steps but it was fairly easy. Id say the only difficult thing is attaching, detaching the battery pack, it's not in the most convenient spot to get to (located at the top with a couple of thumb screws) but it was doable. I didnt bother setting up the motion sensor or sensitivity so maybe that is why i didnt get any beeping problems. Id just as soon not use that feature anyway. Mine sits on the stand next to my bed and i bought the security cable to attach around the leg of a king size bed.

not made to be a strongbox, if someone breaks in and wants to get to the interior it looks like you could pry it open with the right tools
the light is not very bright at all and if you use both shelfs you only get light on the top portion, the shelf blocks the lower.


overall im rating it a 4 but ive only had it a month. it does exactly what i want it to do, keeps my handguns away locked away from company, kids etc and has fast easy access for me when needed.

I have bought 3 of these safes for my house, truck and RV travel. I have 2 single shelf units and 1 deluxe model. I have been happy for 3 years they have worked flawlessly for that time but just recently the deluxe model wont open without the key. It moans when I use the keypad. After investigation and dismantlement of the locking device I have found that the cable (yes steel cable) that runs from the motor to the lock switch has broken. When you punch in your code to the keypad it sends a signal to the motor to spin hence pulling a small steel cable that pulls the locking device open so the door will open. That has broken. I was very dissapointed to find out that such a small piece could render this whole unit useless. Surly gun vault could remedy this simple flaw and make a simple design change so this doesnt happen. I havent contacted gunvault about this because I would not expect them to do anything about it. It has served me without fail opening several times a day for over 3 years. So I guess you could say I have a love, hate feeling about this product. Other than that. this is an awesome product and I would not consider any other safe. When you think about it paying the little extra that this safe costs over the competator I wouldnt even consider another safe especially when your life can truly depend on this thing opening or not. I will buy another gunvault today!!

My GunVault worked flawlessly right out of the box. I had no problems with the door accidentally opening, or the door not closing properly as some others have described. Maybe GunVault has worked the kinks out by now.

You do need to practice to get the feel for how the combo pad works, but the owner's manual clearly states that you need to "practice." The manual is actually very thorough and describes how to use the vault properly. I'm one of those geeks who always reads the owner's manual, though.

Installing the batteries is a bit of a trick, but again, the manual explains the entire process well.

It's a tight fit, but I'm able to fit two full sized 45ACP's, my FN 5.7 plus extra clips for each gun in my vault.

Quick access safes are ideal for bedside 'just-in-case' home defense. They give you fast access to a self-defense firearm without having to get your keys or spin a lengthy combination lock.

However, I can no longer recommend any GunVault for such use.

The internals of the finger pad unlock mechanism wear out. This prevents the safe from opening without a key. The keypad accepts the code, you hear the motor turn, but the door does not open, even with brand new batteries.

Hope it doesn't break when you need it most.

I'm replacing mine with something from a different company.

...and buy one of these if you have children and handguns in your home. This product will hold two guns in cases, or up to four without cases. The locking mechanism is simple, yet child-proof. It still allows for quick access to your firearms. The vault can be secured to a solid surface for even greater security.

Excellent small gun vault for handgun. Easy to use, easy to set up. Secure to shelf or closet frame. Easy to program, movement alarm. Great value. Came as advertised.

Worked fine with just the batteries installed, but went up in smoke after plugging in the supplied adapter. The keypad no longer works to open the vault. Piece of trash IMO. I will never purchase another gunvault item again.
