Not exactly as advertised.,
The above description is more than a bit misleading concerning the security of the product against physical intrusion. The statement "Precise fittings are virtually impossible to pry open with hand tools" is false. The Gunvualt has approximately a 3/16" gap at the top of the door and 1/8" gap along the sides allowing it to be easily and quickly pried open with any small pry bar. If you are shopping for a product to protect your handguns (other valuables) from theft or fire, then this is not the product you need. A heavy floor safe with a combination lock is the best option for theft and fire protection.
If you want a product to secure a handgun from small children and still allow quick access when needed, then this should work fine. The programmable combination system works as described, and if used properly will keep young children out yet still allow access with the combination in seconds. The only practical function for this vault is keeping curious children out, and that is exactly what I purchased it for. I am satisfied with this product since it meets my needs; however, it should also be noted that the shelf is positioned higher than is shown in the picture (might be a production change) and it is not adjustable. The capacity states two handguns but that is also a bit understated. One medium sized handgun (i.e. Beretta 92) and one compact auto or small frame revolver, with magazines and / or speed loaders, is a tight fit. Large frame revolvers may not fit at all depending on barrel length. A Ruger with a 7 1/2" barrel is a tight fit, and if you wish to keep you're handguns in a holster the clearance really becomes a problem. With this line of vaults it is best to underestimate what you plan on storing in them. If purchased for firearm safety storage only, then this is a good bargain for the price. Two stars off for the advertised statement being a bit misleading.

A must buy, especially if you've got kids,
By This version is big enough to take two medium sized semi-automatics with an extra magazines or revolvers and speedloaders. You can also use one shelf for the gun and the other for your passport or other valuables you want readily available but don't use every day. If you use only one weapon, the bottom shelf is less likely to snag something when you remove it. You should, however, practice opening it and removing the weapon with an unloaded firearm several times before counting on it in an emergency. There's a bit of a trick to opening it smoothly and clearing the locking ring quickly but you can easily get the hang of it with a bit of practice. One final caution: there is no weak battery warning. Be sure to check the operation monthly so that a dead battery won't leave you without access to your weapon when you really need it. Highly recommended!

The multivault has add piece of mind to my life since my husband has side-arms in the home. My Husband works in Law Enforcement and with the kids getting older it gives us not only the trigger or cable locks but also lets us encase them in solid steel. The electric lock is great especially to deter the inquring kids from playing with the buttons when it goes off. The key back up is a great extra.

This is the second gun vault I have tried. The combination on the first one failed to release the door, making it only operate by key after approximately one year. I bought a second one hoping it was a bad unit, but the second one failed in the same way within a month. I am very disappointed and expect better quality. The door needs to work first time every time, and it doesn't. It is simply not worth any amount of money. I have gone through the troubleshooting steps listed in the directions and they have not worked.

We purchased this gun safe because we have our first child on the way and I figured we had better start preparing the house for his safety. We have two small 9mm's, so I liked the idea of a separate shelf. However, the shelf is not stable and regulary falls as I'm taking one of the weapons out or putting them back in.
The gun safe is a great idea for being able to obtain quick access to your weapons while children safe by not being able to access them. However, the reliability so far is not what I expected. In the middle of the night if an intruder has broke into our house, the last thing I want is to enter my code and the door not open. Sometimes it opens on the first time and other times you have to enter the code twice. The manufacturer should know better than to make such a poor performing product when it is this vital to safety. Unfortunately, without spending hundreds of dollars there doesn't seem to be a lot of options out there, which is why decided on this product. I figure if I have to enter the code twice to keep my son from dying, it's well worth it. I just hope I can get it open in time if someone ever decides to break in. Hopefully our dog will keep them occupied while I work to get it open. Come on Gunvalut, you can do better.

I got my GV2000 gun safe about 5 years ago and it has worked perfectly ever since then. Even though I also have a full size gun safe, this safe plays a useful role since it is far easier to access quickly.
Things I like about the GV2000: 1) It has enough space for a couple of pistols to fit easily. Over the last few years, I've had several pistols rotate through this safe; but I'm currently keeping a Springfield XD(m) with a Streamlight TLR-1 light attached, a Kahr PM9, and a loaded AR-15 magazine. 2) It is easy and quick to open. Since my Kahr PM9 is my EDC gun, I get into this safe pretty much twice a day and it has always opened very easily. My wife, who also shoots, can access the GunVault easily as well. 3) It is secure enough that I don't worry about the kids getting into it. I also like that I was able to easily bolt it down to a shelf. The one thing I worry about with the GunVault is, as with any electronic device, there is always a chance of a failure; and, knowing my luck, it will happen at the worst possible time. Just a couple of days ago I tried to open the GunVault and realized that the motor had finally burned out - so now I'm in the market for a replacement. After searching for a new quick-access gun safe for the last couple of days, I'm torn between just buying another one of these or spending a bit more money and getting a V-Line safe that doesn't use batteries. Just the fact that this is one of the final 2 contenders, after the competitors have had 5 years to catch up, says a lot for how well this fits my needs. Personally, I wouldn't keep valuables in a little safe like this; but it does fill the role of keeping a pistol safely away from kids and easily accessible by me at the same time. UPDATE: I ended up buying another Gunvault and it turns out the latch was broken right out of the box... After that, I returned it and got the V-Line Hide-Away model, which is working perfectly. I would dock a star because of the apparent reliability issues, but I did get 5 years of solid use out of this so I'm leaving it as 4 stars.

We keep pistols in the house for personal protection. With children around all the time safety is a big priority. This device provides a safe place to keep firearms away from unknowing children. It does also grant us the quick and reliable access to a firearm in an emergency situation. This product received a 4 star rating only because I think the security latching mechanism in general could be a bit more "beefy" to deter a criminal. It does its primary function, keeps my kids away from firearms and grants me quick access when I need it.

Be careful installing the batteries, as there are sharp edges nearby and it's easy to cut your hand.
Mine worked well for about three years and then the motor died. I think I'll look for something more reliable to replace it.

I bought this after returning a Stack-On biometric quick access safe that would never read my fingerprint. This does what I need it to - gives me quick access to a handgun when I need it, but there is room for improvement. First, this product is fine for keeping your kids from gaining access to your weapon. This is not fine for keeping criminals away from your valuables. A thin prybar could open the safe given some time. There is a small gap around the door. Not huge, but big enough to get something in there to pry it open. The keypad combinations are good in theory. You can depress multiple buttons at the same time and have that count as one keystroke. This gives many various combinations that can be used with just the four fingers. The problem is that the key pads don't always register for me when I press them. The quality of the buttons could use some great improvement. I sometimes have to press twice, or press extra hard for them to work. As a result, I am forced to use only a single button per keypress because that way I know whether or not I am actually successfully hitting the key. If I have two buttons in a single keypress, and it beeps, I could be missing one of them and wind up entering the wrong combo. The door swings open very hard when opened. I have this on a shelf on my nightstand and when the door swings open, the box jumps a little. The middle shelf is pretty flimsy and falls down all the time. Overall, it's does what I need it to do. There are unfortunately very few alternatives to gaining quick access to your guns, and even with the shortcomings of this particular product, it's the best there is out there. |
