I was reminded of this beautiful book today. My daughter is now twenty-five, but the image of the ocean filling the house remains with me. That, too, the author's "Foo kiss", which we now send each other through 'Skype'. Both books will remain enduring memories for our family.

This is one of a series of books by Richard Thompson featuring his daughter Jessie. In this silly story Jessie befriends the ocean during her summer vacation. When Jessie returns to her home away from the ocean the ocean mails itself to her in a box. Amazing, silly things happen to Jessie and her town when she opens the box and the ocean is released. After a heartfelt talk, Jessie convinces the ocean to return to the box and go back home to the beach. The Jessie books are full of love and imagination. The art by Eugenie Fernandez go perfectly with Richard's stories. Don't miss these other Jessie books, "Foo", "Jessie On the Night Train", & "Don't Be Scared, Eleven".
