4.0 out of 5 stars Great Starter RPG, July 13, 2009
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure (Video Game)
Gurumin - A Monstrous Adventure PSP lets you enjoy a cartoon style RPG with explosions, puzzles, and some low key fun. Rated E10+ for mild cartoon violence.

I greatly appreciate the idea of having easy-playing RPGs to introduce new players to this type of game. Not all RPGs have to be incredibly complicated with multiple attribute modification. This is a perfectly lovely game with a straightforward character - a young girl who meets up with a set of friendly monsters. She is soon equipped with a basic weapon and heads out to protect her friends.

The game is meant to be cartooney, and you embrace it. The monsters are cute. The villagers are friendly. There is certainly a place in the world for this style of casual, easy-going adventure.

The game draws you in. There are long conversations, full cut scenes and it's as if you're immersed in a story. You start to connect with the characters.

There was great potential here for the game to be a perfect getting-started RPG for any age. However, the game designers seem to have forgotten at some points that the game WAS aimed at beginners. At the beginning of the story you're in a town. You wander around. And around. And around. Finally you're getting bored because there is nowhere to go - and eventually your character says "I'm bored! There's nothing to do!" So the game wanted to wait for you to get bored? That's a recipe for frustration.

You start battling monsters. The game ramps them up very nicely, and slowly - just one at the beginning, then two monsters, and so on. You learn your skills and get the hang of how things work. But then you're stuck in a locked room with no apparent way out. Again, it leads to frustration.

Still, every game has puzzles, so I accept that the game designers are trying to mix things up and keep it interesting. I just think, especially early in the game, that things should flow smoothly for the player so they stay engaged and keep delving into the game's world.

Well recommended for young gamers and those new to the RPG style of gameplay.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very decent PSP game, March 8, 2007
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure (Video Game)
Gurumin is something that I've been waiting for a long time on the PSP for: A solid action-platformer. Gurumin delivers on all fronts, providing fun gameplay, superb music and fantastic visuals. I would recommend it if you don't mind the "kiddy" visuals.

When deciding to purchase this game, i came here, and read the reviews. All i can say is don't let the "cuteness" of this game fool you. It is an excellent adventure game, with challenging levels to test your skills.

Of course, it doesn't hurt that the game really does exude cute, from Parin(the main character), to all her friends in the game. They are all well thought out, and the storyline isn't all that bad, either, considering how many of it's type have come out before.

I judge games by how long i play them when i put them in, and considering i didn't put it down until i had to, this game is worth the playing to the end.

This game is very fun and action-packed.

The game takes a smooth turn of events, the character moves quickly and stylishly making it anything but difficult or boring.

It's got a straight story plot and game play is easy to follow, not making it difficult to find many things. You get items you need somewhat esily at the very early stages of the game, so it's a definite must for RPG fans out there. It has been my favorite game so far on the PSP.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gurumin is a Great Game!, April 8, 2007
A Kid's Review
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure (Video Game)
All that I can say is that this is a Great Game! That's all there is to it. I think that anyone who likes playing any of the Zelda games, would probably love this game. And who doesn't love any of the Zelda games? Although, it is kinda a kiddy game, but for those older gamers out there, it will bring out the kid in you and increase your imagination. It has a great plot and tons of very interesting characters. The graphics are different, too, because it looks kinda like a three-dimensional anime. Some people don't like this, but I think it is cool. The game plays just like a Zelda game or kind of like an action/RPG/platformer. It isn't much of an RPG, so if that is what your looking for, don't expect too much of it. It is much more like a platformer. Overall it is just an awesome game and you should get it right now even if you are still considering it. Why are you still reading this? Go get the game already!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty cool.., July 27, 2009
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure (Video Game)
This game is pretty good for the price I paid for it. worth playing through maybe once or twice but no more than that. The enemies are repeated, but other than that it has a cute story (as predictable as it is) and it has some fun fighting scenes. It can be frustrating at times though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly Looooong Adventure, July 11, 2011
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars

This review is from: Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure (Video Game)
Gurumin is a Japanese game that was created for the PSP. The game story is about a young girl who lives in a village. While she is wandering around, she meets a young monster that lives in the area surrounding her village and he asks her to help him liberate his world. She has to do this by crossing through certain lands, defeating the creatures in each, collecting coins throughout the course and receiving a reward at the end of each one. After she completes a world, she is able to use her items for herself or give them to their rightful owner which is one of the other characters. She can also buy items in her village to help her with her quest.

This was truly a fun game and it was monstrously long! Some of the areas were not open to be explored and it is only after completing some of the challenges that these open up, which gave the game more dimension. Unlike many PSP games, this one seems to be targeted towards girls and women, with a very strong female lead, which gives it a different outlook. It reminded me a bit of computer adventure games, especially because it is not the point and shoot games that seem to be so popular for this portable player.

As another review states, don't let the cuteness put you off. This is truly an awesome game, great adventure, some difficult bosses to kill, each level is fun. Also it is quite a long game, so will keep you entertained for hours.

After completing it I am truly surprised this game is not more well known. It is like medievil, one of the best psp games out there but so few know about it
