Editorial Reviews

Review

Office politics are a fact of life in every company, but no one has ever told us how to use them to our advantage until now. Timothy Johnson has written a compelling, entertaining and deeply practical guide to navigating through the often-treacherous winds of office dynamics. You can t avoid company politics any more than you can dodge air molecules, so you may as well learn how to thrive in the midst of it. This wonderful book will show you how. --Steve Farber, Author, The Radical Leap: A Personal Lesson in Extreme Leadership and The Radical Edge: Stoke Your Business, Amp Your Life and Change the World

I would highly recommend GUST for readers who want to learn how to deal with office politics and how to play the game better. Timothy Johnson has crafted a terrific tale that reinforces the value of stepping back to analyze the situation (and the players), and the importance of naming the behavior, understanding the motivation, seeing where interests diverge or are in alignment, developing a strategic plan, and putting the plan into action. It s entertaining and informative. --Franke James, MFA, Inventor, The Office-Politics® Game; Editor & Founder, Office-Politics.com

This GUST is gutsy! Timothy Johnson provides practical, easy-to-understand solutions for transforming even the most polarized work environment into a more productive place to get the job done. You ll enjoy this quick read! --Roger von Oech, Author, A Whack on the Side of the Head and Creative Whack Pack; President, Creative Think

5.0 out of 5 stars Book offers great insights into office politics, May 2, 2007

Tim Johnson's latest book addresses that issue that most of us would rather not face: office politics. It would make a great training tool for both employees and managers in learning what to do when others in your organization block you from getting the resources you need to do your job. It would also be appropriate for college professors teaching strategy, decision-making, marketing, or management in helping your students learn how to function effectively in the work world.

4.0 out of 5 stars Learn How to Play Politics with Integrity and Win!, August 20, 2007

Office politics is standard fare, but practical advice on how to play office politics with integrity and win is somewhat less ubiquitous. Timothy Johnson's GUST is one of a kind, a political fable set in present day corporate America, this book provides insight into the drivers behind everyday office politics and instruction on how to recognize and address it with integrity. Timothy Johnson is a wonderful storyteller, weaving a tale of complex relationships and competing motivations into a quick read with lasting impact. I recommend this book for anyone working in any office of any size.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous - An Easy to Read Practical Office Politics Treatise, June 1, 2007

I long ago left the corporate world due to a distaste for the political machinations required to advance. Now that I am a consultant, in great irony, a deft touch with the political ramifications of my actions is of even larger importance.

Timothy Johnson has given us an easy to read and digest blueprint for morally using office politics to advance personally, collaborate with teams, and achieve goals.

Aside from my high accolades for the practical nature of this book, its a darned easy and quick read. I am sure I will refer back to it as specific situations arise.
