Hi Fellow -PARENTS, anyone been driven nuts by " Fruit -salad, yummi yummi - and other infantile Wiggles -hits? Here's some GREAT music with animations that your kid will love, while you actually find yourself longing to hear the music over and over again! 3.0 out of 5 stars a little trippy
I purchased this for my 4 year old as an alternative to all of the big budget/toy tie-in movies. The DVD was well made and has beautiful, rich colored art work. The songs are sweet and catchy. My daughter enjoyed it but it didn't keep her interest. She hasn't asked for it again and I was a little put off by some of the subject matter in some of the songs - death...

This review is from: Gustafer Yellowgold's Wide Wild World (2005 pressing) (DVD)
Hi Fellow -PARENTS, anyone been driven nuts by " Fruit -salad, yummi yummi - and other infantile Wiggles -hits? Here's some GREAT music with animations that your kid will love, while you actually find yourself longing to hear the music over and over again! I caught this show LIVE in NYC , but the DVD is just as excellent. When I came the first time, I sort of went along reluctantly- I had a splitting head-ache and some friends said: we're going to this show about some space-guy, a little alien , for kids, his name is Gustafer Yellowgold. Now I am not crazy in general about Sci -Fi, but went along anyway, just to do something fun for my daughter.

From the opening chorus of "I'm from the Sun", the biggest smile just got glued on to my face (and the music wiped out my headache pretty much instantly.) The music is just so beautiful and I was genuinly touched by the fantasies, Gustafer is tapping into our innerchild, the fantasies are so recognisable and they transport you back to a certain time where innocence and fantasy ruled. Although there where kids ranging from ages 2 to 12 , the lyrics are catchy yet sophisticated, with plenty of double entendres. My 4 year old LOVES IT, and so do I , and I recently bought it as a B'day present for a 35 year old friend who loves it too- go figure! Whatever it is, GUSTAFER is doing something magical to kids as well as the bigger kids ( us parents!) .It is truly original and beautiful, thanks for the songs and for bringing us into Gustafer Yellowgold's world- looking forward to more of his adventures! The only one "complaint" I have: I wish they would also release a CD of the music, not just a DVD so we can play it in the car too!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great music for all listeners!, January 18, 2008
This is smart and tuneful pop that kids and adults can enjoy. A nice addition to the current trend of making music that kids like yet doesn't drive parents batty after repeated plays. Morgan Taylor has written some amazingly catchy, fun and touching songs that can entertain music fans of any age.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gustafer Rocks!, September 7, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Gustafer Yellowgold's Wide Wild World (2005 pressing) (DVD)
I saw Gustafer's show in the theater. It was fun to sing along with the band and watch the funny stories. I like the DVD movie mostly because it has all the friends and characters that rock along in the story. I love Gustafer's friend, the e-e-e-e-e-e, e-e-e-e-e-e, e-e-e-e-e-e, eel! Yea! your friend, Mike

5.0 out of 5 stars The One That Started It All!, October 25, 2007
This is the critically acclaimed 1st Gustafer Yellowgold DVD/CD set. "Dr. Seuss meets 'Yellow Submarine'!" says the New York Times. Winner of the 2007 NAPPA Gold Award (National Parenting Publication Award). Humorous musical vignettes with striking visuals by songwriter/illustrator Morgan Taylor. A must have for any fan of good music and absurd humor.

3.0 out of 5 stars a little trippy, January 4, 2012

I purchased this for my 4 year old as an alternative to all of the big budget/toy tie-in movies. The DVD was well made and has beautiful, rich colored art work. The songs are sweet and catchy. My daughter enjoyed it but it didn't keep her interest. She hasn't asked for it again and I was a little put off by some of the subject matter in some of the songs - death mentioned, etc. I like to think of myself as progressive and admit that some themes do go over my kid's head but this was just getting to the line I prefer not to cross. I gave an extra star for creativity and for not having a purple dinosaur.

5.0 out of 5 stars Let There Be Gustafer, March 16, 2011
Being a parent and an opinionated music geek presents it's own rich tapestry of issues. For example, while I like the irreverent, alt-rock, arty sensibilities of Yo! Gabba Gabba, I'm not about to put "Don't Bite Your Friends" on my stereo. And despite my recent epiphany about the Wonder Pets music being based on opera, the gratuitous sung expository ("the phone... the phone is riiinging...") makes me want to slice of the external parts of my ears with my kid's lightly serrated, plastic starter knife.

And Providence said, "Let there be Gustafer." And it was good. It was damn good. It was so phricking good that I found myself happily humming "New Blue Star" whilst pumping gas, not in that "please let me remember the endless loop that is the Entertainment Tonight theme just so I can get this out of my head" way, but in that way where you just discovered that you truly love a song, and that it may somehow magically be about your own personal life, and you just like singing it out loud. "New Blue Star" is just one song on this record. There are zero bad ones. It is quite literally, all good. And it's so much fun to talk to your kid about which ones they like and which ones you like, like you're debating Beatles songs with your first live-in significant other. What a miracle, to have music and achingly charming videos that you can actually enjoy just as much as Junior. Or juniors, if you're so fortunate.

Now listen, this is just one record. The kind progenitors of Gustafer have released four DVD/CD sets of exceptional auditory and visual art for the discriminating parent and their rocktacular offspring. That this exists is a gift from heaven. I want to encourage all of the truly cool parents out their to taste this divine fruit. The geniuses behind this stuff have my eternal gratitude.

So at first, you're humming at the pump. Then, you realize that you completely relate to the "Mint Green Bee," who just "crying tears all day, but says the music makes it all okay..." And then, for about 2 seconds, you're like, "This song is about me!" And then you remember you're a grown up pumping gas, and you wave at your kid being goofy in their car seat, and you can't wait to hit the highway with your little rocker and bond about good music when the next song comes on. I'm not exaggerating. The really, really important friends with kids get the box set from me whether it's a holiday or not. Because they need it in their lives.

Another superfun thing: see these guys live. I have never seen anything so cute as the Manhattan show where all these little kids with their Gustafer T-Shirts waving their Gustafer Plushes, singing along. And you can't help but notice the grownups who can't refrain from the refrain. It is too much fun. Warning: my daughter's Gustafer doll is the absolute go-to guy who MUST be there at bedtime, wherever we are. She can roll with the punches if he's not, but it's a hard night. But here's the deal - I know this sounds odd - he likes to hide. Not only our Gustafer, but out friend's Gustafer, has ended up behind the bookcase, under the credenza, parked next to the milk in the fridge... It's spooky, but he's from the sun, so it might be cultural.

Anyway, as you can tell, this is worth checking out.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is great - but it's the old pressing- get the newer one!, October 25, 2007
This review is from: Gustafer Yellowgold's Wide Wild World (2005 pressing) (DVD)
Please make sure you're getting the correct DVD. This version is the original release from 2005 that some folks are selling used. (Why they would part with their Gustafer DVD I will never know - are they nuts?!) This only has one disc and has one less song than the 2007 re-release. The 2007 version has both a DVD and a CD in it, as well as one extra song, "Rocket Shoes". This one should be considered a collectors item since it is no longer in print. We would recommend the 2007 version... its remastered video and audio are far superior! It's available right here too.

5.0 out of 5 stars A charming DVD/CD set of tunes for kids age three and up, June 10, 2007
This review is from: Gustafer Yellowgold's Wide Wild World (2005 pressing) (DVD)
Gustafer Yellowgold's Wide Wild World is a charming DVD/CD set of tunes for kids age three and up, featuring cartoon-like character Gustafer Yellowgold, who leaves his home on the Sun to experience life on Earth. He meets a wide range of friends including Slim the Eel, Asparagus the Dragon, and Forrest Applecrumbie the Pterodactyl, and engages in his joyful hobby of smashing desserts! Minimally animated, Gustafer Yellowgold's Wide Wild World relies upon its fun and fancy free songs to entertain and delight, such as "Tiny Purple Moon", "Pterodactyl Tuxedo", "I Jump on Cake" and "New Blue Star". All videos are playable in normal or sing-along karaoke versions, and the text can be displayed in English or Spanish, in this enchanting addition to young children's video and audio collections. 50 minutes, color.
