Great pocket-sized Mahler reference,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Gustav Mahler (Classic FM Lifelines) (Paperback)
Although not able to fit in most pockets--(it is actually 5x8 inches in size, and about 100 pages long)--this little reference book does a good job of covering the life of Gustav Mahler and all his works.
With no illustrations, other than Mahler's photo on the cover, this little book is useful chiefly to classical music disk-jockeys, or to those of us who just want a quick briefing on Mahler. The best aspect of this book is that it talks about each Mahler symphony, describing what was going on biographically in his life, AND provides a good description of each symphony. Whether you're a radio announcer preparing lead-in remarks, or like me--just a listener who wants to know what each Mahler work is about, this little book will really help. |
