Should be an example under "Under appreciated.",

"Gusto," is definitely an odd ball, but it doesn't stop it from being bad. There are some pretty poppy moments, but ironically it is the best song writing they've done. There's songs on here that don't even sound "punk," but the songs rule. If you're a fan of lots of music but also have a strong love for punk rock, as I do, you might fall in love with this album as I have. I think the song "Lemon Water," is hilarious. Right from the beginning you'll know this isn't familiar Guttermouth, and for some that'll be great, but unfortunately many people want to just hear the same record again and again. I too, like the majority of Guttermouth fans, believe "Musical Monkey" is the best album, but it doesn't mean they never made good albums again. Furthermore, it's appropriate to ask could they have topped it had they wrote songs the same way? "Gorgeous" bridged "Covered With Ants" perfectly. As mentioned before if you're a fan of other music AND liked "Covered With Ants," you're almost guaranteed to like this album.

I was amazed when I saw all the great reviews of this album. I thought did I buy the same cd there mentioning on the web site and the answer is unfortunatly yes. I have been a Guttermouth fan for a long time now. I go to there shows allmost everytime they come and have met the band several times. Some of there older cds are punk rock classics like musical monkey and full length. Anyone who has been a fan of there music for awhile has noticed that there music has evolved into more of a pop sound from cd to cd. It has gotten so bad they might as well be on the same page as blink-182. They lost there edge. One of there claim to fame is there overtly offensive music. The most offenive song on it is where he talks about peeing in the shower. I still have a lot of respect for the band though. I went to there tour for this cd because they put on an awesome live show. I was very releaved to hear Mark himself tell the audience that he knows the cd blows and he wont subject us to it. Eat your face returned more to there classic roots but still is not as good as there early albums. If you get a chance go to one of there shows. They rock.

This isn't the Guttermouth I know, I waited a long time to get this cd, it's finally released and I get this. If you hvae never heard Guttermouth you'd be much better with "Musical Monkey" or any of their older albums. I guess this album isn't THAT BAD as to get 1 star, but it just shows my huge disappointment

Join Guttermouth as they re-define smart a - - punk rock,

I have been extremely heavy into this band for years, and of course, own all of their previous work. Everything that they put out seems to be pure gold in my mind, that is, until the release of Covered With Ants. Which, with the exception of the song "Black Enforcers" (in my opinion, one of their most intense and power driven songs) plays like some other mainstream band trying to break into the ever popular punk scene. I don't really consider it to be a "true" Guttermouth release. That said, I wasn't sure what to expect from Gusto, but had to buy the record anyway. Unfortunately, as with most good bands, there is an eventual plateau (or recess) at which point you generally stop buying their records (if they haven't already disbanded). So upon the first spin of Gusto, my initial thought was, "I AM NOT BUYING ANY MORE OF THEIR STUFF!" But then I decided to give it another shot. And another. And pretty soon I had to stop listening to it, because I hate to wear out my favorite CD's. After hearing Gusto repeatedly, I am nothing less than thrilled with this effort. I found tracks 7, 9, and 13 to be the highlights of the disc. Obviously you shouldn't expect Musical Monkey or Friendly People, rather SOMETHING BRAND NEW from a group who (although fun, lewd, and hardcore) has up until now admittedly been more or less of a one trick pony (or donkey). Gusto is like nothing that you have heard from Guttermouth, or anyone else that I can think of. It is complete and total smart a - - (ok so you can't swear on this site) punk rock RE-WRITTEN with a bit of a poppier side from the (seemingly 12 year old) mind of Mercury Mark Adkins. Think Screeching Weasel if Ben Weasel was actually in sixth grade, instead of just trying so hard to pretend that he was. ( I put these two bands in the same vein of punk.)
Anyway, I am obviously not a music critic or anything (as this is my first ever review) but I was disapointed with the overall rating of this disc and really felt the need to say something more positive about it. I think that this style of punk is a refreshing change for Guttermouth, and won't be at all surprised when lesser bands begin to jump on the meat wagon. It is a bit more polished than their previous efforts, however, this works for the type of sound that they are trying for on Gusto. In conclusion, BUY THIS FREAKIN RECORD, and give it a chance. You may be happily surprised, as I am, to own something that smells so good!

I have to say guttermouth have realesed some KICK [..] albums in their career but this is absolute [..]. I dont know what happened to them. The only reason that saves this from a one star is track 2 and track 9. THey are the only songs that are half good on this cd, but there rest is pure lifeless pop [..].

Altough Guttermouth was one of the first punk bands I ever listened too. I would have to agree that there music in the past has been very simple and sound a lot a like. Granted thats what kinda made them good but this album I think is a must own for any fan. The songs are more catchy and the lryics are as funny as ever. Altough this is quite like the mega distorted punk classics for the most part they do get some have guitar riffs on a few songs. Like "Pee In The Shower" and "Walking Home". One of my favorite albums!

I hope to god that this band will wake up and get back to the good stuff. Don't they know that New Found Glory got booed off the stage at one of the biggest punk festivals (Inland Invasion). I mean common, sure its guttermouth, but my god why are they doing this? I just don't understand.

Ok, Guttermouth made a shirt awhile back, that says: "Punk Rock: A loud, fast, deliberately offensive style of rock music". I've always agreed with that statement. Punk rock is loud and offensive. The term "punk" was used to describe the Sex Pistols. In their time, the Pistols were probably the most offensive thing rock n roll had ever seen. My point is, this album is not punk rock at all. Even Mark Adkins is resentful of this album and he made it. Guttermouth is supposed to be obnoxious anti-pop music, not Blink-182, which is what this sounds like. DO NOT buy this album. Go buy every other guttermouth album though. Do it now.

I bought this CD after downloading an mp3 from Gusto. The MP3 in which I downloaded was track 1 Camp Fire Girl #62 after hearing the MP3 I knew instantly these lads would be funny. Gusto is the first Guttermouth CD I bought, and I'm glad I got it, the whole band's musical genre sounds like something I would have done back in high school with a couple of lads if I made a band. I enjoyed track number 1,2,5,8 and 11. The cost of the Gusto CD was 15.99 at Futureshop and I'm happy with the whole purchase.
