5.0 out of 5 stars Great book on probiotics and prebiotics!, September 26, 2009
This review is from: Gut Insight: probiotics and prebiotics for digestive health and well-being (Paperback)
This book clearly defines probiotics and prebiotics, explains what foods contain them, and how to keep good bacteria -- not bad -- in your kitchen. The authors have researched the medical literature to support their writing and have created a very useful guide for anyone wanting to enhance their health with real foods. The client profiles in the book illustrate how easily this can be done.

The last chapter discusses probiotics and prebiotics throughout life from birth through older adults. It also includes something I have never seen before -- a section on "stool-gazing" so individuals know what is normal and what merits a mention to a health professional.

Gut Insight is a one-of-a-kind book which I highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gut Instinct? Buy this book!, October 27, 2009
This review is from: Gut Insight: probiotics and prebiotics for digestive health and well-being (Paperback)
Brava to Jo Ann Hattner and Susan Anderes for assembling a wonderfully complete, concise and authoritative guide to the world of gut health! Here the reader can finally gain a thorough understanding of the world of pro- and prebiotics and appreciate why they can't live without them. I especially love Hattner's real-life case examples of patients who have benefited from her years of wisdom. The inclusion of product examples along with some simple and tasty recipes really makes this guide useful to both consumer and health professional, alike. Get ready to dig into a great and fun read that offers lifestyle recommendations that are easy to digest (pun intended!).

5.0 out of 5 stars Got gut health? You will if you read this book!, November 18, 2009
This review is from: Gut Insight: probiotics and prebiotics for digestive health and well-being (Paperback)

The authors take a complicated and sometimes queasy subject and translate all the science into user-friendly facts. I love that you can open the book to any page and find out good info on gut health. The authors don't mince words and it's clear they're serious about improving digestive health. What I like best is that they talk about food ingredients, give brand names, and really get specific, so consumers get info they can really use.

There are case studies in the book, and real-world recipes that are simple enough for anyone to prepare. This book is written in a motivating and empowering way that lets the reader know that better health is a lot easier than they think. That alone is worth the price of the book. Gut Insight may have been written for consumers, but I'm keeping it at my desk within arm's reach.
