Book Description

December 26, 2006
A noted French health practitioner who has treated famous patients from Pablo Picasso to Mick Jagger offers this cutting-edge book--already a bestseller in France--on how to stay healthy by keeping one's stomach health in top shape

There is a growing trend in science to think of the stomach as a "second brain" that can impact the health of the entire body. Pierre Pallardy, a well-respected French nutritionist/osteopath has, over the course of 35 years, developed simple, effective methods for preventing illness by creating harmony between the body's two "brains." Now for the first time he shares with the general public his method for improving the healthy functioning of the stomach and, consequently, the health of the entire body. The book:

• provides a 7-step method for improving stomach health that employs breathing techniques, diet, exercise, massage, and meditation

• explains how Pallardy's methods can combat a host of afflictions, including allergies, anxiety, asthma, back pain, cancer, colitis, constipation, fatigue, headaches, insomnia, sexual problems, and many more

Gut Instinct is poised to become a popular preventive health title in North America.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

According to Pallardy, a French osteopath, dietician and author, the abdomen is a "second brain," producing crucial immune cells and a network of neurotransmitters; in this thorough, well-sourced guide to intestinal well-being, Pallardy argues that in order to operate on an optimal level, a person must pay the same attention to his abdominal brain as he does to his cranial version. To that end, he presents readers with seven simple steps to a happy, stress-free, smoothly functioning tummy. Most of the method stems from simple common sense: eat regularly and slowly, choose meals carefully, and exercise consistently. Other of the steps lean earnestly toward the new age; the author puts much emphasis on "abdominal breathing," asks readers to think with their gut through "abdominal meditation" and massage their stomachs for a few moments each day. Though informative, the writing can become convoluted, as when the author describes cellulite as "a result of a deregulated nervous system impacting negatively on the digestive process and causing a constant excess of fermentation in the gut." A rundown of common conditions, however, provides solid, specific advice. Pallardy's insights and methods, backed by his 35 years of experience, attention to current research and dedication to improving quality of life, should soothe many an upset stomach.

This review is from: Gut Instinct: What Your Stomach is Trying to Tell You (Paperback)
For some time I have had continuous problem with feeling bloated, feeling tired often and worried about trapped wind in my colon. I saw this book advertised on Amazon and just thought I buy it as I had not much to lose in finding out about this theme.

This book provides leading edge information on the "second brain" and how the abdominal area is the key to good health and well being. If the two brains are out of synch then health problems will begin to occur. So much of our health problems originate in the abdominal area and reading this book has been a real eye opener for me. I realise it is important to be mindful of how I eat (which is about slowing down the pace)and to breathe properly and exercise this region of the body which will restore one to good health in a short time.

The book offers a ton of insights into what is good and not so good for the digestive system, simple breathing techniques using abdominal breathing, daily exercises, simple personal massage methods to get rid of cellulite and a powerful abdominal meditation to restore balance in the stomach and re connect with the first brain. I was surprised to read that the digestive region can affect the cardiovascular system and so healing the abdominal area will improve heart rhythm and promote clearer thinking.

I give this top stars for the quality and ease of reading the book and having tools to apply daily to improve health and well being.

Best book to help with stomach. Better than a doctor. Wish that this French author translated more of his books.
