5.0 out of 5 stars Some of the Best of the Best January 18, 2013
Format:Audio CD
The first thing to realize is that this is a compilation of purely instrumental excerpts -- overwhelmingly British -- from previous albums by the ensemble. That said, it's about as lovely a compilation as you could hope for. If you've heard the group before, you know what to expect. If not, this is an excellent place to start savoring their artistry. Exquisite and atmospheric as all get out, it's a marvelous ride featuring some prominent tunes of the period plus several more obscure pieces. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Marvelous Music October 27, 2009
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This is an excellent sampler of early music performed by the Baltimore Consort. These musicians don't just capture the art, they capture the spirit of the age. This is wonderfully engaging music played by the best.

1.0 out of 5 stars Recycled music February 27, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase

I love the Balitmore Consort. It is one of my favorite early music groups. In fact, its one of my favorite music groups in any genre. I have every one of their albums.

I love Dorian recordings, they are one of my top three favorite record labels.

I HATE compilations of previously recorded music that is presented as it it might be new without telling the customer UP FRONT that it is a "greatest hits" album.

Technically, of course, its buried in the fine print. But when a fan of the Baltimore Consort sees a new album by them, the first thing that jumps to mind is "OOH an new album from my favorite group." Its not like they are Lady Gaga and I will have heard everywhere in the media that Baltimore Consort is coming out with a new album, but wait, its just Greatest Hits.

Even if they are still a favorite group and if I will still buy Everything (new) that they put out, its still a cheap gimmick by BC and Dorian.

So if you don't know Baltimore Consort and don't own everything they have put out than this disc is highly recommended. If you are like me, save your money until they really do put out a truly new album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it! Great holiday music. July 18, 2012

Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Rousing and lyrical but without any vocals, which is exactly what I wanted. This is great music to curl up to with a mug of steaming tea or a hot toddy in the winter. Great music to play during a holiday party (unless you & your friends are into Lil Kim or Slayer, in which case you're probably not reading this review or considering buying this CD anyway).

Or have some friends over and dance a galliard!
