My wife had to remind me I was sharpening the knives all the time, I was having so much fun with this steel. The diamond coating makes it very effective and fun to use. This ain't your grandpas steel. Have fun.

This seemed to be one of the most awesome sharpeners I've ever had when I first received it; it came with the full "Battle Station" set, my wife got it for me for Christmas. Today I noticed while I was sharpening my small paring knife that the diamond "plate" is just peeling off. Underneath, just regular 440 stainless metal. Looked a little closer, the coating isn't "plate" which is when they actually bake on a liquified coating several mils thick, but rather a PAINT. I've only sharpened 3 of the knifes probably half a dozen times, and I've been sharpening knives since I was a boy 30 years ago, so this isn't my first rodeo, didn't use any harsh chemicals, just plenty of water to keep the steel wet while sharpening. I'm very disappointed in the quality of this. Lasted half a year, now junk. Too bad, otherwise it was a GREAT sharpener,,, until the paint came off.

A few quick 22 degree passes on this baby and my knives cut tomatoes like butter. I am very pleased with this sharpener. It takes some getting used to. It is wider than a normal steel and because of the diamond surface, the knife drags a little when sharpening. However, it takes fewer passes than a traditional steel to get the same edge. So in the end, it's more efficient.

The oval sharpening knife is fine, but you should give better instructions on how to use it properly. Especially at the cost. Maybe give a video disc with Guy showing you how to use it correctly.
