5.0 out of 5 stars Guy Pene du Bois - Painter of Modern Life, April 23, 2009
By
Betsy Fahlman has done a great job of describing the life, challenges and successes experienced by Guy Pene du Bois. Her years of research and intimate knowledge of the artist are reflected in this comprehensive review. The art selected for inclusion in the book is well chosen. I highly recommend this selection for anyone interested in important American artists of this period.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, December 27, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I expected to see lots of very good paintings by this artist but after reading this and other books about him I realize that there were just a few really good paintings done by the artist who had so much promise and opportunities. As a student of Henri and being in an exceptional group of students that included Edward Hopper you would expect him to have a long and outstanding career. Perhaps his life would be more interesting to a psychologist.

Years ago, when I studied Ed Hopper, I learned about Du Bois. I wished for a great book on Du Bois and now it is here!

The paintings are delicious.
