4.0 out of 5 stars Really useful!
These squishy bowls are really handy for college. I use them for soup in the microwave without a problem. You will want a plastic bag to stick them in once they're dirty, though. Do NOT leave them dirty or forget to wash them as they can get moldy with the remnants of your food! Even if you do, they're easy to clean, can be disinfected, and have no trouble surviving in...

The "cup" is too small to be useful for anything. The bowl isn't even the size of a standard breakfast/cereal bowl. I found the perfect solution: I returned the squishy bowl set and purchased a 36 oz. squishy PET DISH instead. It works great and was less expensive than the bowl set!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The utility bowl set, June 8, 2010
Drink coffee? Eat oatmeal? Make soup? Enjoy So-Co and Lime? If you fit any of these categories and you like to do these things on the trail, in a dorm, packing across Europe, living as a hobo under the bridge or in just a general gotta be light and tight manner, this is for you.

Squishy bowls are small, light, packable, retain shape after being turned inside out of easy cleaning, compressed and generally abused. I use these backpacking or on military FTX. I highly recommend them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice!, July 27, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
While it's hard to believe I'm writing a review about a squishy bowl as an adult man, these are actually pretty neat. I bought a set on impulse to try out for rough use eating lunches in the field and on motorcycle trips. Sure enough they're squishy, tough, and work just like more conventional bowls and cups (crazy!). Picked up another set to get another bowl, see below.

The product description is wrong, the cup is really 6-ounces and pretty small to drink out of as an adult male. Small women and children under 11 may find it more useful, but adult men, especially if you're an aging middle linebacker who likes to eat and gets laughed at when you ask the nice folks building your motorcycle jacket why they don't make anything larger than a 52 Long, probably won't get too excited about the cup.

The bowl is a much more useful piece of kit, pretty much works as a cup (obviously) and if they'd sell two for this price and spare me the agony of having to refill a 6-ounce container of liquid four times to satisfy my thirst I'd be pretty pleased. Heck, I'd buy a few of these in a 20-ounce or 24-ounce size due to their versatility and durability. They clean up well and don't ask any special treatment from me.

Also, after reading the reviews below, I would like to add: If you're an adult and can't figure out how to lick/drink/slurp/chug/lap/sip/otherwise intake food and liquid from a squishy container requiring fine motor skills and fingertip control I submit that rough use dishes probably aren't something you should be owning since you'll probably hurt yourself operating in an environment that requires unbreakable, can't bust 'em food containers such as camping, motorcycle trips, or lunches consumed sitting on the tailgate between jobs. Perhaps it's better to stay home and consume food from your rigid plastic vessels while lying on the couch watching Faux News or something in your sweatpants.

That is all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect space saver!, April 5, 2009

I took a pair of these motorcycle camping and they worked fantastically! I had them wedged into a pretty small space in the saddlebags but they always sprang back into shape when I needed them. An excellent addition to anyone's camping gear.

5.0 out of 5 stars great backpacking bowl set, March 4, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I love the squishy bowl and cup set for backpacking. They are duarble. You can squish them into any space in the backpack and they always pop back into shape (even if stored that way for a month). They hold just the right amount of food and drink (the cup is a little small at 6 oz, but that just means richer hot chocolate). The best part is easy cleanup. When you are done eating, you turn the bowl inside out and lick off the scraps. No wasting food, no food scraps to filter out when claening the bowl. Great product.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Backpacking Cup and Bowl Set, October 28, 2010
I originally got this for my toddler to use during our camping trips, but found myself using them more often than not. Here's what I like:

* Cheerful color - Yes, this may appear an insubstantial quality for camping gear, but it applies here. My toddler likes it because it's special to her. I like it because, aside from my fuel bottles, much of my gear is drab or utilitarian. It's surprising how much I have appreciated a spot of color in my hands as I'm downing the days' first hot coffee.

* Durable - These have held up to countless washings, sharp utensils, folding, dropping, kicking, and boiling water. They're tough! The inside is smooth and shiny and the outside is an easier to grip matte finish. The flexibility is nice when some food gets forgotten and gets caked-on - just stretch and squish the bowl around and the old food cracks and comes right off!

* Versatile - These easily do double duty with food and liquids and can be stuffed into just about any space.

* Insulation - I can hold these immediately after pouring boiling water in, and hot drinks and food tends to retain heat longer in these than in my metal kit. (I hate how fast coffee gets cold in stainless cups when it's below freezing outside!) These do a reasonable job of keeping food hot without adding the bulk of a rigid insulated cup.

Cons:

* Size - They are on the small side. The bowl is fairly useful for food servings or beverages, but the cup is fairly tiny. Yes, this saves space, but they're really quite small. It's not a big thing for me, but I would check out the size before buying...

All in all, we really like these. It took me some getting used to holding these, as my first attempt to grasp my cup filled with coffee ejected half the contents when I grabbed it too hard - they are squishy indeed, and so have to be held gently. These are useful, though perhaps not essential, additions to your camp kit. They make a nice complement, however, to my standard camping mess gear. I would purchase these again if I were to do it over.

Bought it for my son who went to Philmont. Reviews from Backpaker magazine were good.

By third day had a small tear. By the end, worked as a almost flat pice to hold food.

Cup part is useless. Plate was OK until tear.

5.0 out of 5 stars These replace my other gear, September 13, 2009

They compress to fit anywhere, I use them to pad the inside of my MSR cookware, where I keep the fuel can. They handle heat (boiled water) well and stay cool to the touch. I have a red set & a orange set- the orange is more heavy duty. The red ones are more pliable and seem thinner. I would buy more if I needed to, but these are all we need. The size is perfect for a backpacker who packs on the light side. Highly recommended.

i was a tad worried about the size of the cup in this set after reading some other reviews, but honestly, the small cup will work for me, as it will be used for instant Viet or brewed Turkish coffee while on the trail

the small cup can easily hold 6 oz (8 oz full), while the bowl can hold 14 oz (tad over 16 oz full)... this is just fine for me

the bowl is almost too big for my needs, and i'm a bit worried about how 'floppy' it is, especially when filled with hot liquid, such as a noodle soup

but the real utility of this set is that the items compress and fit into my small lumbar pack or handlebar bag on my bike

they'll work just fine when i cook lunch off the trail or the MUP
