As my title reads they were the 90's version but I liked them just as much as the originals. The music was fun and the guys were the kind of hot that made a young confused teen boy realize what team he played for! If your into 90's pop then this is your CD, just wish they would release the show on DVD!

For those of you who don't understand the reference, the Guys Next Door were NBC's second attempt at creating a band. Their first being the Monkees. Were as the Monkees were clones of the Beetles (and for those who think otherwise; the sequance where the Monkees jump up and down like monkeys was taken from the Beeltes), whereas the Guys Next Door was a clone of the New Kids On The Block. Five young men who sang and danced to pop music. Although this attempt failed badly, it was only because NBC decided to make them into a Saturday morning show rather then attempting to make a Prime Time show out of them. NBC's lack of faith in this band doomed them from the start. Those few who were lucky enough to see the show will remember it fondly, those who didn't will never know what they missed. For the Guys Next Door was a funny show, and the music wasn't half bad. I use to watch the show with my niece who was 11 at the time and totally in to NKOTB and the GND, so we were not happy when they were taken off the air; but such is life. I had the CD for the longest time, and even showed it to a roommate of mine who use to watch 'Saved By The Bell' but had never seen GND. He said he had never heard of them, nor ever seen the show aired. I played the music and told him about the show, and he said that he wish he had the change to see them for he liked the music; and thought the show sounded good. NBC's poor judgement on the airing of the Guys Next Door and the promotion of them is what killed them in the first place. These guys never had the chance to shine or they would as big as NKOTB. They could have been the next Monkees if not for the near-sightedness of NBC.
So here's the Guys Next Door and their handful of fans who still love them. Peace, Love & Music. Roguexx |
