Not all that bad...but a little tough for a beginner.,
This review is from: Guyton and Hall Physiology Review (Guyton Physiology) (Paperback)
If you're following Guyton and you really want to understand physiology, then I would recommend this book. The book is filled with great question that allow you to apply what you have read, an absolute must for learning. Whether I read the pocket guide or the full text of Guyton, I answered about the same number of questions correctly; which leads me to believe that the pocket book is enough reading to do before starting this book. It has excellent explanations for each questions right and wrong answers. It is by far the best physiology question book that I have come across; however, it does have down points to it. For example, I like to practice questions after every chapter that I read, and I was hoping this book would allow me to. Unfortunately, it does question in blocks. That means that you need to finish reading all of cardiology sections before you start the questions, which includes several chapters. Because the questions are comprehensive, you will have significantly difficulty trying to read only half a section and then attempting the questions. Additionally, while the vast majority of questions are excellent, there are still a good number of them that are extremely difficult. In fact, they are so difficult that you need to remember specific numbers from the text. I dare say that they are impossible for beginners to answer correctly because no one can be expected to recall such minute details. There is also the added fact that some of the questions lapse over into pathology. Without a comprehensive view of physiology and pathology, some of the questions are down right too hard! Don't be surprised if you end up with a 50% at the end of a block of questions. Both my friend and I ended question blocks with percents in the 50's or 60's, and others came out with even lower scores. Be prepared to work with this book because you're not going to be able to skate through it. Even with all of this, I still give this book an excellent rating. I have found no physiology question book that challenges the reader in such a magnificent way. Approaching my senior year of medical school I still find myself relying on information that I gleaned from this book. It will definitely bring your physiology from book smarts to a working knowledge.

good for test bank questions, but not learning the material,
By K.P., medical student (arkansas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Guyton and Hall Physiology Review (Guyton Physiology) (Paperback)
It seems professors use these questions alot and they helped stimulate my interest in the material I had already learned. However, it is not a "review" as titled, in other words, the book does not methodicaly review or teach you indiviual concepts covered in the course. An EXCELLENT choice for that purpose is the "pocket" version of this textbook by the same offer. That really helped me learn pretty thourougly and fast.

Everyone must own this book. Not only does it provider concise and relative physiology but also how it relates to common diseases often seen in the OR. I really enjoy reading it and it is well put together.

Good practice for exams,
This review is from: Guyton and Hall Physiology Review (Guyton Physiology) (Paperback)
The questions in this book are a great way to review the concepts and see whether or not you really "get" the material. There are explanations next to every answer so you can understand why it is correct. I wouldn't rely solely on this review book to get you through exams but it is a great supplement to class notes and a thorough textbook.

The questions are pretty good and reflective of medical school level questions. As a med student about to take the boards, I highly recommend it.

I purchased this book to further my understanding of Guyton in chiropractic college (my background is chemical engineering). Though I read Guyton more than once, took maticulous notes from class and the text, I needed the Guyton Review to help fill the gaps I missed for part 1 board review.
I realized I needed this book during the physiology reviews for the chiro part 1 board exam. The questions in the Guyton Review are, in my opinion, based closely to what you would expect to see. They take you to the meat of the chapters so that you know what is important. That is a small price to pay for someone that may not have had the physiology background or needs to review.

Wonderful for CRNA school,
This review is from: Guyton and Hall Physiology Review (Guyton Physiology) (Paperback)
We used the Guyton text for a sizable portion of A&P and this review book correlates well with the text. It's most helpful to help make sure you actually understand concepts by providing questions from subject matter in the text. Possibly the most helpful feature: answers are given with rationale AND every question/answer is referenced with a page number/chapter in the text on where you would find the answer!!!
It's a life saver in CRNA school.

Good book for review questions if you are also using the text book by the same authors. My classes suggested that we get the book for good review questions. Unfortunately the professor used another text book for the class and this book quickly became useless. Not due to the quality of the book, rather the inappropriate suggestion to buy it. Will be good for the boards for a comprehensive review of the systems. I'd buy it again if I used the associated text book in the classrom.
