5*****Stars

Jaz Primo has been a favorite of mine since I started reading his Sunset Vampire series years ago. His ideas are always one step ahead, with a different take on the vampire stories. His Alpha in that series is a woman, Katerina Rawlings, who has a human love interest integral to the storyline. It is definitely Not YA, so I was really surprised (in a good way) to see another choice added to his repertoire, a YA story with a male POV. Hmmm interesting.

We meet Scott Blackstone, teenager, just about to enter into his junior year of high school. His family has made a not so unanimous decision to leave Springfield, Illinois, and move to a very small (population 3000) town of Custer, North Dakota. The decision was made with the passing of Scott's paternal grand parents, leaving the business that has been in the Blackstone family for generations. Scott was not too happy. He had a girl, was a member of the football team, to him " this was craptastic."

Arriving in Custer, he enrolls at the local high school. To Scott's chagrin, he finds that there is a football team, but not a good one, not like the team or the league in Springfield. The good news is, with his experience, he is a shoe in for being a starter. His classes are good and he even has two classes online that give him credits to Black Hills State University. His Dad comes through with the keys to a vehicle, so things might be looking up.

Scott decides to take a spin and check out the tow, stopping by one of the lakes to check out the fishing he and his Dad plan to do. Walking around he sees a very pretty teenage girl, seeming to be talking to a log. It moves and he realizes it looks like an alligator. Feeling this is too strange, he puts it out of his mind.

Scott Blackstone was forced to move back to his childhood town after his grandparents die. He thinks it's going to be nothing but boring and will meet no friends. Scott enrolls at high school as a junior, then joins the football team. When he goes into town one day he meets a beautiful keep to yourself girl reading in the local coffee shop. He walks up to her and ask to sit at her table, not knowing who she was or what she was. He finally learns her name, Gwen who is what you would call a loner in their town because of a terrible accident a while back. Scott is amazed by her.
When weird stuff starts happening is when Scott starts to wonder what is going on with Gwen, it's not til then that she starts opening up to him on what she is and her family history. You start to wonder if he will stick by her knowing what she is and what she can do or will he leave her behind?

I loved this book!! Then again I love anything by this author he is truly gifted author. His writing is breath-taking and just amazing!!! He makes you want to be in that book and always leaves you wanting more. I was laughing at the parts that were funny and I was crying at the end (you will find out why if you read the book) and I was on the edge of my seat reading as fast as I can to find out what was going to happen. Trust me read the book and you will know what I am talking about! You won't be disappointed!!

I really enjoyed reading Gwen Reaper. It was an easy relaxing read and only took a couple hours to complete. I liked that it was a mystery what Gwen was up until much later in the book. (I did not take the title into account until later on haha.) Although I liked that it was told from Scott's point of view, I didn't really like all the details of the football games after the first few games but that might make it more interesting for the guys to read. As the book went on I was more anxious to hear about Gwen and her secret and why she's quiet, withdrawn and even antisocial according to some of the other characters. I thought a pet alligator was an interesting choice because it was different and I really think it went well with her character. I would like to hear more about Gwen and her progress with mastering her abilities but also I find myself curious about what comes next for Scott and Gwen as a couple since their relationship. Overall it was a very enjoyable book that helped to stretch my mind to different possibilities other than vampires, werewolves and witches in the paranormal/fantasy genre.

5-stars for this fantastic yet ironically realistic story of the unbelievable, penned by Jaz Primo. It will have you staying awake till - let me check - yep, it's almost 2:00 am, and I just finished reading it. :)

Enter our young couple; Scott and Gwen, for whom I pulled from the get-go.

Gwen, after a horrible family tragedy that's been shrouded in mystery for a few years, is now a very reserved and withdrawn teenager. Living with her mom who's a doctor, Gwen has opted for homeschooling due to her strong desire for seclusion, and to be at home where she feels safe, and doesn't have to deal with other kids who only ridicule and bully her. She's highly misunderstood, smart as a whip, and doesn't even realize that she's most definitely love-worthy.

Scott, not real thrilled about having to move to a small town after his dad inherits a couple businesses he will now run, doesn't think there could possibly be any real redeeming qualities in their new hometown, regarding his own life as a teen boy. But once he begins attending the small town high school, he quickly makes new friends and ends up on the football team. His teammates seemingly accept him without preamble, and before he knows it, they're all tight buddies. Strangely enough, I was totally pulled into the football action even though I'm not a huge sports fan. It was the way in which Jaz relayed the details of the game and all the players as they played, that had my adrenalin pumping as I quickly read on to see the outcome.
