3.0 out of 5 stars A bit disappointing
I was a little disappointed in this book. It seemed like nothing really exciting happened...the romance seemed a little dull, as did the plot: Gwyneth sees Gavin, a thief, get beat up by his fellow thieves and left for dead, so she takes him back to her castle to teach her village how to fight and protect themselves against an evil neighbor who wants Gwyneth's land and...

5.0 out of 5 stars A sweet Medieval romance perfect for teenage girls., July 2, 2002
Gwyneth is just fifteen years old, but with her mother and brother dead, and her father ill, the responsibility of running her family's estate, Haverleigh, has fallen to her. Baron DeVilliers, who owns the neighboring estate, has made no secret of his wish to marry Gwyneth so that Haverleigh can be his. Gwyneth would do almost anything to avoid marrying such a despicable man. When she finds an unconscious thief in the woods, she decides that he is the answer to her problems. Gavin is not much older than her, but has lived his whole life in poverty. Gwyneth blackmails him into posing as a squire and training the men of Haverleigh to fight. Gavin reluctantly gives in to her plan. But neither Gwyneth nor Gavin expects the feelings of love that begin to grow between them. I highly recommend this Medieval romance to teenagers, and to anyone who enjoys a sweet love story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best one so far, March 28, 2003

Lady Gwyneth's father is ill and she is left in charge of their estate but a neighboring Baron plots to take her estate from her and marry her as well. Gwyneth has no army to fend off an invasion but she comes across a young thief who she blackmails into training the townsmen to become soldiers. Will Gwyneth and the thief be able to get along for long enough to prevent the Baron from taking away everything she holds dear?

Gwyneth and the Thief is the best Avon True Romance I've read so far. The plot is exciting and the pacing of it is perfect. The two main characters are full of personality and are the type you really root for. I really liked many of the secondary characters as well. The ending was happy but managed to keep form being too unrealistic. I hope there are more books in the series as likeable as this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars An adorable romance!!, July 20, 2003
By A Customer
I was in [a local bookstore] and I came across this one, liked the cover and bought it!! In only two days I was finished with it!! It is one of the best Romance stories that I have ever read! One of my favorite excerpts is:
"I would have to be a fool not to know girls find me handsome. Since I am not a fool, I believe you do, too. Is that why you took pity on me, my young and pretty lady? Is that why you combed my hair and gave me your brother's clothes? What use have you for me here?"
Gwyneth blushed hotly as she answered him. "You are an insolent rascal!"
"Sometimes." Gavin smiled as he halted in front of her. "Don't you like rascals, my lady? Don't you find us....exciting?"
I thought that this book was adorable and had lovable characters and evil ones as well. Margaret Moore did a fantastic job and this book was well done.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent Medieval romance novel, December 9, 2002
By A Customer
This is the first book I have read from the Avon True Romance series, and I really enjoyed it. The story is about Lady Gwyneth of Haverleigh. Her father, the earl, is ill and she is in charge of her castle. The Baron DeVilliers wants Gwyneth as his wife and also wants the property of Haverleigh to add to his own, Aldenborough. When Gwyneth sees a thief, Gavin, abandoned by his group, she decides he would be useful in training her men in protecting Haverleigh. As time goes on, both realize they are in love with each other. Soon DeVilliers gives a challenge, his men against Gwyneth's, in an attempt to capture Haverleigh if his men win. Will Lady Gwyneth be able to keep her castle safe, and be with Gavin, the person she loves? This is a really great novel, and I would definitely recommend it for teenagers.

5.0 out of 5 stars A charming medievel romance, July 2, 2002
Lady Gwyneth is nothing short of desperate. When her neighbor Baron DeVilliers proposes to marry Gwyneth, even though he doesn't even love her and only wants her family estate Haverleigh, her sick father consents even though Gwyneth hates the man. To save her estate from the Baron, Gwyneth comes up with a plan that involves a particular thief, Gavin, who she met in the woods left to die by his fellow thieve members. Left with not much of a choice, after being abandoned by his fellow family of thieves, Gavin accepts her request to pose as a squire and train the farmers and craftsmen of Haverleigh how to fight. Gavin soon finds that he enjoys this new, different lifestyle, and as Haverleigh is finally secured, he finds himself falling in the love with the determined young Lady Gwyneth. As sparks between the two of them fly, their forbidden romance nearly undoes them both. The only way for their love to survive is to keep it a secret...but can they...for love between a lady and a thief is definitely impossible. Quite the nice medievel novel. I have always been intersted in this genre and this new novel in the Avon True Romance series ranks high on my list as one of my favorites. Can't wait for further installments of this wonderful series.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Lady and Her Thief, June 10, 2003
By A Customer
Fifteen-year-old Lady Gwyneth is in a predicament! Her father is sick, leaving Haverleigh, their estate, in her care. To make matters worse, the greedy Baron DeVilliers will do anything to have Haverleigh for his own, even try to persuade Gwyneth to marry him. Desperate for help, Gwyneth asks Gavin, a thief, to pose as a squire and teach the men of Haverleigh to fight so they can protect the castle. In time, Gavin becomes more to Gwyneth than just a helpful thief. Sparks fly between the two, but can love happen between a lady and a thief? Are they both willing to take the risk?
I thought this was a great book. I have read several of the Avon True Romance books and every one is a great read!

5.0 out of 5 stars True Romance, July 31, 2002

Keeping in fashion with with the previous quality of the other books in the series, this is no different. Gwyneth and Gavin are likable characters they you adore from the start. Gwyneth is a strong woman who likes to do things for herself, and even takes control of running the castle when her father becomes ill. Gavin is a thief, albeit a good-natured one, who is rescued by Gwyneth to train the people of her land to defend themselves against the evil Baron who wants to make Gwyneth his bride. All he really wants is her land to add to his property. Of course, we all know that Gavin will come through in the end and save his dear Gwyneth from being married to such a pig! Woo woo! This is an awesome book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excelent!, July 25, 2002
By A Customer
One thing I espeshally like about this book was that it started out right away with, well, everything, and summed up what was happening with the money, her father, etc. in about three paragraphs. Gwyneth actually did not know Gavin in the very beginning, but figured that he could help later after she sort of rescued him from dying there in the woods. Gavin actually did have a choice, to stay, pretending to be a squire, or run away back to his old life. Of course the whole time he was going to run away if it turned rough. I would say that they both fell for each other right away, not just after his job was finished, though. I absolutly loved this book one of the best I have read, except I probably would have loved it even more with a little bit more adventure.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Total Page Turner!, June 6, 2005
I couldn't put the book down! It was exciting, and Moore made sure to write about characters that the reader could relate to.
Gwyneth is at the mercy of horrid DeVillers who intends to take over her land. She is unlike most girls of her class at that period of time since she runs the land because her father is ill. Gwyneth fears that DeVillers will take her home by force but she cannot afford mercenaries, so she has no way to protect her land...until Gavin came into the picture.
Gavin is thief. He is very handsome, clever, and acts more like a gentlemen then most thiefs. He is rescued by Gwyneth and agrees to help her.
As the old saying goes, opposites attract, and this romance novel is full of adventure, love, and humor. I very much enjoyed this, and all of the other Avon True Romance books, and I highly reccommend them all!
