5.0 out of 5 stars just what I was looking for
I didn't know a product like this existed until recently. The alarm is loud enough to be heard over the hum of a speed bag and clips tightly to a pair of shorts. I didn't have to worry about it falling off while I was jumping rope either. I absolutely love this product. My wife uses it too.

I was already happy with my Everlast Round Timer, which seems to be subject to a smear campaign here on Amazon but works wonderfully and is really easy to use, didn't have to look at the instructions at all.

This Gymboss has the advantage of letting me customize the length of each interval so it's ideal for the Tabata training that was the reason why I bought it. The beeps are quite audible, and I like that it beeps once at the end of the first interval but twice at the end of the second interval, rather than once all the time. Also nice that you can customize the length of the beeps.

HOWEVER, the user interface is *ANYTHING* but intuitive! I am quite a gadget geek and usually never need to read instructions, and I have owned several countdown timers, but this Gymboss has probably the most convoluted and arbitrary button system I have EVER come across. This is not helped by the included instructions seeming to have been written by a complete retard. In all honesty, it probably needs more like SIX buttons, not three. The Everlast timer has a far, far more intuitive user interface.

Anyway, I had to rewrite the instructions for myself (I've pasted them into the Comments section below this review), and after much repetitive practice am now able to use it without constantly having to refer back to them. Sheesh!

It's a shame that such a handy device has to be so user unfriendly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Tabata intervals, December 3, 2008

I use the Gymboss for tabata intervals at CrossFit. The vibrate feature is great when the music is high and you are busy coaching. Forget how to set the timer? Don't worry the directions are right on the back of the thing; so easy a caveman like myself could use it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spectacular Tool, January 10, 2009
This review is from: Gymboss GB2009 SILVER (Misc.)
The GYMBOSS has to be the best purchase I've ever made for workout equipment. This little timer has revolutionized how I exercise.

I primarily use the Gymboss when I run. I've always ran in intervals, or Tabatas, but I was plagued with having to keep an eye on my watch. With the Gymboss, no more. I can set a series of intervals (with shorter rest intervals), clip the timer to my belt, and concentrate solely on running. The beep is loud enough to hear over my mp3 player, and the vibrate feature (albeit rather weak) catches my attention when I do miss the beep.

The user interface is extremely simplistic, only three buttons; but it isn't difficult at all to change settings. Construction is superb; I think I'd have beat it with a dumbbell to break it. My only wish is that it shut itself off after a length of inactivity. I've already killed a battery after leaving it on for a couple of days straight...

Overall, I'd recommend the Gymboss to anyone and everyone. Very rarely am I this impressed with a product. The Gymboss is a superb interval timer. 5 out of 5.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, basic product, June 7, 2009

I've tried a bunch of "interval watches" including Nike, Timex, etc. This one is the best of the bunch. It's not perfect though. You have two basic choices for intervals - either a single repeating or a double.

More options, like up to 4 interval sessions, would be better.

For example:

30 sec Interval
10 sec Rest
60 sec Interval
10 sec Rest

What I do like is that the vibration and beep are strong enough for you to feel and/or hear when performing an intense interval workout. Also it is a good bang for the buck.

Other watches I've tried are pretty lame in comparison.

Excellent for P90X, CrossFit, or similar interval routines.

Two thumbs up.

I use this for run/walking. I found it hard to program; there are some youtube videos that show how it's done, but I had to pause the video a few times. There is one point in the video where you have to carefully watch the person's fingers instead of listening to what he's saying; it's for the section where you are setting the number of cycles you want it to do. It looks as though he pushes the button on the left but he doesn't. You can choose either beeping or vibrating for the end of each cycle. I use headphones so I chose vibrate, but I can't feel it when it's clipped to me. So I carry it in my hand, and am wondering how I'll like that when the weather's hot.

I ordered my Gymboss Silver V2.0 on Dec. 8, shipping it express mail, and received it Dec. 11. It came with the Gymboss, a battery, and an instruction sheet. It was very easy to set up and all the functions, including the stop watch, the single interval time and the two interval time functions all worked as I expected. And like a pager, it has belt clip on the back of the unit. You can attach the Gymboss to your shirt or belt. I attached it to my shirt and tried a tabata exercise with weights in a very loud gym and I could hear both the low beeps and the high beeps. The Gymboss is exactly what I have been looking for. Good job Gymboss!

A great little timer. Easy to use. Clear and loud alarm, or vibrate mode. Belt-clip has a strong spring. 3-step instructions written on clip. 800 support line printed on timer too. Customer service is very responsive. I would buy another GymBoss.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice for Interval Training, Some Issues, January 9, 2010

This is a great little device to use in interval training for cardio or perhaps circuit training. It is very customizable, however it does take some time to figure out the settings (with a little practice it becomes easier). The alarm can be set very loud and long (1, 5, 10 seconds) and it can also be set to vibrate.

When I first got this I thought to myself how cheap this looked! But when you use it, you see the value it has. I still think paying over $20 is a lot for this. There is no button labeled on/off but rather the "NEXT" button turns the device on or off. You just need to hold it for a few seconds to turn it on. At first I thought my device was broken because it would not turn on but then I held the NEXT button and it came on. It has a belt clip with some instructions labeled on the back. Finally, there is also a stop watch which I have not used that much and I have had to reboot the device twice. Overall, I very pleased with it and with a little time have figured out how to use it the way I want.

4.0 out of 5 stars We use this during home hemodialysis. Does almost everything we need it to., January 9, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Gymboss GB2009 SILVER (Misc.)
My mom & I do my dad's hemodialysis for him here at home. When things are going smoothly, we use it every 30 minutes to remind us to take blood pressure & pulse stats. There are times when we need to monitor him more closely, & we need to take stats every 5-to-15 minutes. The timer is great in that it beeps every 1/2 hour & keeps going, & we can hear it over the machines.

I do wish that it was easy to switch between 2 interval settings, & that you could choose one or the other instead of having it automatically run A then B then back to A etc. When we need to take stats every 15 minutes, it would be nice to be able to switch to a 2nd interval with the push of a button, & use that one until we decide to switch back.

Great little timer though. Too bad they were out of pink!!
