An excellent collection of goth and industrial music,

This review is from: Gypsy 83 (Audio CD)
I was perusing one of my favorite websites (warning shameless plug: Metropolis.com) when I came across the soundtrack to "Gypsy 83", a story based on two goth kids in the midwest who takes off to New York City. As soon as I saw the track list, I knew right away that I had to get the cd. Here is the song list: Anyone who puts Apop and Diva Destruction on a soundtrack scores major points with me since I love Apoptygma Berzerk and Diva Destruction. The fact that this soundtrack is released through Metropolis Records (my favorite record label, another shameless plug) definitely scores more points with me. After listening to "Gypsy 83", I must make Claire Voyant a priority for me. I just love the Claire Voyant tracks. The lead singer has a very lovely voice. One of the stars of the film Sara Rue (Less Than Perfect/Popular) even contributes to the soundtrack with the haunting ballad "Voice So Sweet". I was quite surprised to hear her sing so well as she did on this song. Although I have Apop's "Suffer in Silence", the fact that someone put an Apop song on a soundtrack blows me away. Thankfully I already love "Suffer in Silence". "Talk to Me" is a previously unreleased song from Diva Destruction (or a new one written for the movie, I don't know). I loved it of course being the Diva Destruction fan that I am. All the songs on the album are good. I can hardly wait to see the movie whenever it comes out.

A must have soundtrack!,

If the movie is half as good as this wonderful soundtrack, Small Planet Pictures will have a timeless classic on their hands. With three enchanting songs by Claire Voyant, two deep and sexy songs from Karen Black, a brilliant remake of Stevie Nicks' "Talk to Me" by Diva Destruction, the Cure's "Doing the Unstuck" and Bauhaus' "Severance" as well as Velvet Acid Christ, Apoptygma Berzerk, Magenta, Mechanical Cabaret and Sara Rue putting in some of their finest work, this is a "must have" for any serious compilation or motion picture soundtrack lover. Claire Voyant, by the way, OWNS this soundtrack. Wow! Victoria Lloyd--what a voice! I cannot wait to hear more from her and her crew: Chris Ross and Ben Fargen. Definitely a band to watch and listen out for!

go to www.industrial-music.com and buy it there for 13.99$ plus shipping much cheaper. This is an excellent cd the magenta song is my favorite. its featured at the end of the movie. I loved this movie and have seen it over 30 times now and these songs are what help give the movie such nostalgia. the director stated that originally he wanted to use stevie nicks songs but couldnt get her management to give the rights to them which is fortunate for us as these songs fit much better. these songs will bring a smile as they take you back to certain scenes in the movie like severance from bauhaus while vlive and gypsy walk throught the cemetary and say high to carl. clair voyant opens the movie and adds a beautiful atmosphere. I really love diva destruction's cover to talk tp me that was able to be used because stevie didnt right it. I usually hate sound tracks but i definately love this one

I have to admit I am not really a huge fan of the indie film GYPSY 83. The story of two disaffected youths leaving the safe haven of their home in Sandusky, OH to go to NYC for some tribute to Stevie Nicks did not do much for me. What did do for me was the film's awesome collection of modern goth and industrial music. Most soundtracks nowadays consists of pop or rap music. Not GYPSY 83. As much as I like Stevie Nick's original version of "Talk to Me", Diva Destruction's version totally blows her version out of the water. Sorry Stevie. I can totally listen to "Talk to Me" over and over again. I still do after all these years. My other favorite song is Velvet Acid Christ's "Dilaud (Postponed)". I love how Bryan Erickson's vocals are processed. I also like the child-like vocals during the chorus. I also enjoyed the two tracks by Karen Black (from The Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black). It was rather different for me to hear her sing in a different style than I know her from. Her songs had a slick, seductive jazz feel. Good tracks. Ya can't go wrong with songs by Claire Voyant, Bauhaus, Apoptygma Berzerk and The Cure either. The soundtrack closes off with the haunting vocals of actress Sara Rue which was fairly interesting to hear. I wish more soundtracks nowadays would cater to my gothic and industrial tastes like GYPSY 83 did. This cd is definitely worth adding to one's collection if you like the aforementioned bands.

MUST OWN* SOUNDTRACK TO MUST SEE MOVIE.,
This review is from: Gypsy 83 (Audio CD)
For any electro/industrial/goth music enthusiast who was/is an intelligent, insightful, witty, warm(on the inside) self-protectively-perturbed/angst prone(on the outside) youth who found/finds they only fit in with other "misfits."
(...) Own this soundtrack and view/own the motion picture.
