5.0 out of 5 stars The best album you've never heard of, August 13, 1999

This review is from: Gypsy Beat (Audio CD)
Bill "Luigi" Bonk and Phil "Giuseppe" Parlapiano released one of the best albums of 1988... but very few of us know that. I first heard "Gypsy Beat" in 1989 while I was doing a college radio show and really learned to appreciate it when I moved to New Orleans in 1992. 'Paradise to Ponchartrain' and '1959' stand out, and the entire album as a listen is a real treat. Some of the best folk-rock around.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ah! the tragedy of overlooked music!, March 28, 2000
This review is from: Gypsy Beat (Audio CD)
Not always of course--some music deserves to be overlooked. Gypsey Beat DOES NOT fit into that category. I love this album. I bought it for fifty-three cents and enjoy it more than ust about any other album in my collection. Sunflower bounces as well as any of the radio faves from Hootie or Dave Matthews, Blues Traveler or Sister Hazel. Some of the other songs hit hard lyrically, but they're all strong musically. Ease It Slow is the perfect ending too, with it's discordant switch of vocalist and tone. This is a great album. It's worth the price.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great listen!!!, June 10, 1999
This review is from: Gypsy Beat (Audio CD)
An excellent album. This folk sound (some songs are similar to the HOOTERS, the others great accustic guitar songs) is refreshing and easy to listen to. The lyrics are well-written and insightful. I have seen them live (in Waukesha, WI!!!) and they are even better! When I stop listening to this album for a couple of months and listen to again, I am always suprised at how much I enjoy it. Do yourself a favor and buy this album and just enjoy it!
