5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!
This little gem, overpriced as it is, should be in every little kid's video library. This kind of movie is rare today, a family movie with no explosions, evil doers, violence, disrespect, etc etc etc. It's about a poor farming couple who has a little girl named Meg, and Gypsy is her best friend. During an extreme drought, Meg's parents decide they have no choice but to...

3.0 out of 5 stars It's Lassie Come Home with a girl and a horse
Written by the same author, Eric Knight, Gypsy Colt is very similar to Lassie Come Home, however it is enjoyable anyway, even if we know the plot in advance.

Highland Dale, known as Beaut but credited as Gypsy was a black American Saddlebred stallion who also starred in the TV series Fury. Wonderfully trained, he is not only gorgeous but so entertaining to...

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!, November 12, 2000
This review is from: Gypsy Colt [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This little gem, overpriced as it is, should be in every little kid's video library. This kind of movie is rare today, a family movie with no explosions, evil doers, violence, disrespect, etc etc etc. It's about a poor farming couple who has a little girl named Meg, and Gypsy is her best friend. During an extreme drought, Meg's parents decide they have no choice but to sell Gypsy. Gypsy's new owner, a race-horse breeder, is nice enough, but the man he employs to handle his horses is hateful and Gypsy repeatedly runs away from him and back to Meg. To make a long story short, this is a great family movie, just wish it wasn't so hard to find at a reasonable price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent family movie. Very impressionable, September 23, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Gypsy Colt [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I was a young girl when I saw this movie. It made a very deep impression on my life about caring and loving for an animal and how an animal can love in return. I have tried for many years to locate this movie as I wanted my grandchildren to see it. The love of the child for the animal, the cruelty that others can have to an animal, and the miracle of the return of the animal in the end made such an impression on me that as I grew older, my first purchase when I started to work was a horse. I remember demonstrating that kind of love to each and every pet I ever owned. To me, this movie is a "must see". It teaches strong family values and the tearing of a father's heart to not be able to provide during the depression years to keep something so dear to a child. If you liked movies such as Free Willy, The Black Stallion, and Black Beauty, you will love this movie. D. Wilson, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

This was such a heart warming story of a little girl and her pet horse, the horse is so loyal to her. Just goes to show horses can be a best friend too, not just dogs. Really good family show I recommend this if you like horses and good clean movies. Everyone will enjoy this sweet and really heart warming movie. Buy it and you won't be sorry!!!

51 years ago, my father took me to see "Gypsy Colt". Of all the horse movies I've seen & all the horse books I've read, Gypsy Colt is the one that I recall with the fondest memories.
What can be any better- ride your coal black horse bareback to school & Gypsy will be there to give you a ride back home after school.
Gypsy was the name I gave to one of my favorite horses.
It is a happy story with Meg & Gypsy reunited at the end.
I believe it is a must see for all young people who love horses
& must see for adults - we need more movies like this.

5.0 out of 5 stars 10 star gem, April 2, 2007
This review is from: Gypsy Colt (DVD)
Yes, this is a movie any horse lover should own. But the value goes well beyond the love of horses and to the issues of faith, family love and common decency. And what a great story about a horse who knows who really loves him as he tries at every turn to escape from his cruel trainer. Great ending that also demonstrates decency and ethics as the original owner sees what is going on and that the horse belongs where the girl and her family live. And the faith issue comes in because the girl had such faith that doing what was right would bring blessings. Blessings such as an end to a drought, her father being able to keep the money he got for selling the horse in order to buy seed, and blessings in knowing that good can win in the end.1o star

5.0 out of 5 stars Gypsy Colt, January 31, 2005

I was horse crazy from as far back as I can remember. I saw "Gypsy Colt" when I was 8 years old and he became my "dream horse". I am now 56 and I still love the movie and that horse. I would recommend this movie to everyone...even those who aren't horse crazy would enjoy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A real classic, December 28, 2004
This review is from: Gypsy Colt [VHS] (VHS Tape)
It's Lassie as a horse, young Joe Carraclough as a girl, and bonnie England traded in for the American West... But the story (based on Eric Knight's Lassie Come Home novel) remains the same: Child finds pet; child loves pet; child loses pet; pet goes on an arduous journey; child and pet are reunited. Despite the lack of originality in the story, it is very well done here and the horse, Gypsy (played by Highland Dale, credited as Gypsy), is not only stunningly beautiful, he's a very talented actor to boot. In the end, Gypsy outdoes Lassie when he brings a miracle home with him.

This movie is a classic. My dad had seen it on tv recently and he couldn't find the copy that he had bought years ago. He loved the movie, it's a great family movie with good morals. I would highly recommend it for families especially for those who love horses.Gypsy Colt [VHS]
