5.0 out of 5 stars Synergistic Jazz in Synch with Traditional Village Sounds, November 24, 1999
This review is from: Gypsy Jazz (Audio CD)
Sometimes a torrential hurricane, sometimes a smooth-flowing river: the multiple jazz styles rendered on this CD meld the traditional music of the past with the speed of modern life. Echoes of ancient melodies are constantly reflected in the colorful musical mirror created by these highly talented musicians.

Hungarian, Romanian, 40's style jazz, and Balkan Brass sounds combine with village traditions to create a sound that is somewhat familiar . . . yet astonishingly fresh and new. Each and every selection on this CD showcases the extraordinary talents of these musical artists. The sound is so natural, so spontaneous, so free! Their love of traditonal music and improvisational jazz is fully demonstrated in a vast repertoire of complimentary arrangements.

Anyone who appreciates Hungarian, Transylvanian, and Balkan music will find this CD produces that natural "endorphin rush" they crave. After listening to it once, you will determine, "I must have it." Erika Borsos (erikab93)

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible!, October 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Gypsy Jazz (Audio CD)
I also had the privilege of seeing Kalman Balogh in concert when he performed with Okros. All I can say is that he is a master of the cymbalom and this cd is a great integration of two music styles. A must for any cd collection!

had the pleasure of hearing these guys at a local music spot. Bought this CD at the concert. It was twenty bucks, which seemed steep, but then I thought, "Hey, they're GYPSIES!"
