Gabriel Gordon has Been Here Before, June 9, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Gypsy Living (Audio CD)
This album has something special to it. The songs speak about travel, personal growth and love. The musicians on this album are the cream of the crop, and Gordon's singing is phenomenal. He is on tour in Europe at the moment opening for the likes of George Benson and Van Morrison and will be playing in Natalie Merchant's band on her tour this summer.
There is a song called "Been Here Before" with lyrics that grab you:
Every once in awhile when the wind agrees
There's something for everyone
Once upon a time in these memories of mine
All this can be said 'cause it was done
I hear elements of Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder, Meshell N'degeocello, Hendrix and Chris Whitley. "Falling into You" sounds like an outtake from Jeff Buckley's Grace LP.
I have no doubt that this album will reach a wide audience in the U.S. It has been out in Europe since late last year, but was just released in the states yesterday (june 8, 2004), the day that Venus was between the Earth and Sun. If Gabriel Gordon keeps it going, he will shine like the stars as well.

Solid effort, great musicians., October 10, 2004
This review is from: Gypsy Living (Audio CD)
This is a solid effort well worth the purchase price. The talent here beyond Gordon himself includes Andy Hess of Gov't Mule on bass guitar, and Deron Johnson keyboardist maximus who has played with Miles Davis and is currently in Seals band. First rate all the way. Be the one in your group of friends who says "I've been in to this guy for years" when he finally breaks big.
