5.0 out of 5 stars songwriting as clear and straightforward as Texas rain
Jerry Jeff can reach right out and grab you with a simple tune that comes straight from the heart with naked honesty - She Knows Her Daddy Sings is worth the price of the album and more!

2.0 out of 5 stars bojangles is an imposter
This album cannot possibly be as godawful as the samples...supplied. Jerry Jeff never sang as badly as the Bojangles cut even when he was falling down drunk.
I'm going to keep browsing. Somewhere there must be a re-release of the old "Bojangles" LP, the one with Bromberg's picture on the back.

5.0 out of 5 stars If ya REALLY like JJW, you'll love this one!, March 14, 2002

I looked at a couple of the other reviews for this "album", and want to rebut what others may be saying. Gypsy Songman is truly and album of JJW's life. Granted, the version of Mr. Bojangles is not folksy like the original, but ya gotta get past that! The other tracks are AWESOME, and if you listen to the words, you can learn about him. I recently read his book and now declare Gypsy Songman in my top three JJW favorites!

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic stuff from the true "Gypsy Songman.", July 19, 1999

This review is from: Gypsy Songman (Audio CD)
A true collectors edition of great music from the travelling minstrel Jerry Jeff. This cd is full of old classics like "Mr. Bojangles" and "David & Me" to newer great autobiographical tunes like "Layin My Life On the Line." Jerry Jeff always writes and sings from the heart and this collection is no different. Especially noticeable are the songs written for his children Jessie & Django, "She Knows Her Daddy Sings" and "Django's Lullaby." Keep on keepin' on JJW.
