Katie Barnes just wants to be a normal thirteen-year-old . . . but instead she is a homeless outcast, living on the other side of the country from her friends, and bitter against a God who allows her life to be so miserable. (20040603)

All Katie Barnes ever wanted to be was a normal thirteen-year-old with a normal home and a normal family.
Instead, her family is homeless and half a continent away from family and friends. She’s living her life in a soggy tent, where her most precious possession was stolen. And to make matters worse, she’s the laughingstock of the other girls.
It's entirely unfair, and the charity of self-serving churchy old folks is only making life worse. What kind of God do her parents believe in, anyway?
Well, Katie’s about to find out, and it won’t be pretty.
Betty Barclift has been published in a variety of publications nationwide. Her greatest honor, however, is being called Grandma and having been married to a godly man who was a minister and teacher.

A Compelling Story,
By A teacher "Susan" (Enumclaw, WA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Gypsy Summer: A Novel (Paperback)
Gypsy Summer is a great read--fast-paced and true-to-life. It will certainly open the eyes of young readers and give them a glimpse of what it's like to be homeless: the uncertainty of tomorrow, the despair, and the loneliness of being different. Best of all, it shows how God can take any situation and turn it around for His good. Highly recommended.

I just love books - any kind of books that I can get my hands on, I love 'em. This one is a good read, it's kind of sad in parts but I really enjoyed it a lot. Makes you think about real people out there who may be going through the same situations and you want to help them any way you can. I enjoyed this book.
