Book Description

Shrinker's back, and this time she's attempting to convince some new supers to aid her in breaking out her gang of anarchistic mutants from the Metrocity Jail. Chrome's life shatters from the devastating change into one of the most powerful superhumans in Metrocity, she must learn how to cope with the terrifying realities of no longer being human. Gravitix's story unfolds as he makes a decision for or against the use of power for easy gain and evil.

The story brings back many familiar faces from the first two novels in the series as we again interact with Psystar, Spartan, Black Tiger, Gatecrasher, Psycom and Silverlash.

Please visit the author's website for more information on characters and character images.

The ongoing series currently consists of these novels (as of early 2012):
H.E.R.O. - Metamorphosis
H.E.R.O. - New Markets
H.E.R.O. - Rise and Fall
H.E.R.O. - Dark Research
H.E.R.O. - Horde
H.E.R.O. - Paragon

“I'm half way through the last book, Horde ... the characters have become like friends and I don't want to leave them. Thank you, Kevin, for writing this series. I felt like a kid again reading it. The series can be summed up in one word, ‘FUN.’” - Dale R. Bille

"...I've been teaching 7-12th grade English for nearly 20 years and my students continually ask for recommendations for their monthly Book Reviews. Books such as Kevin Rau's series are, not only, perfect for them, but for readers of all ages. They are high interest, exciting reads that are well worth checking out.

The only thing I don't like about the series is I've finished the first five and have to wait for the sixth. Number six, H.E.R.O. - Paragon, is due out any time now, so I won't have to wait too long. WOOO HOOOO!" - Triage IV

"...I've already read the first 4 books in the series and they keep getting better with each new book. If you're looking for some light entertainment with super powers, fun characters, action, and a good bit of comic relief, then this is a good place to start. >:) " - Tagadin

5.0 out of 5 stars H.E.R.O Rise and Fall by Kevin Gerald Rau January 15, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
This is the third book in the H.E.R.O series.

In this book we meet some amazing new characters.

Diva is a new member of H.E.R.O, and she is helped to get use to her new powers as a super by our now well-known supers from the last two books. Diva is a very sweet and likable character.
For Chrome changing into a super has been more like a curse than a blessing, her entire life has been destroyed by her change and her world is falling apart.

Gravitix has no interest in joining H.E.R.O; he wants to use his powers to make a lot of money. But will it be for good or evil the lengths in which he is prepared to go to for his own personal gain.
Shrinker is a mutant and she is very bitter and has a massive chip on her shoulder, she wants to build up an army of mutants. Shrinker is manipulative and calculating as she tries to bring the new supers on her side, to help her free the mutant followers she lost in H.E.R.O Metamorphosis.

Along with the fantastic new characters we meet up with the familiar characters from the last two novels.
Although H.E.R.O Rise and Fall is a much shorter novel, than the previous ones in the series, this does not disappoint, you still get lots of action and the introducing of the new characters keeps the storylines fresh, as well as involving the characters from the last two novels which are now well known and well liked. I look forward to seeing how the new characters develop, and to which path they will follow, good or bad. I really do enjoy these books; I just find them really entertaining. On to book four I go!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great new H.E.R.O.s! May 8, 2012
By Agoema
This book stars Diva and Chrome, two supers that debuted in New markets, and they are a fantastic addition to the H.E.R.O. story. If Mr. Rau does one thing wonderfully, its creating believable, sympathetic characters. Chrome understandably has a very hard time with her new powers, and her story is a real tearjerker. Diva, on the other hand, is just like you would think a supermodel gaining superpowers to be like. I kind of wish Rau's works would be picked up by a movie studio, it'd be great to see his work on screen. This is a very enjoyable read, and I look forward to finishing his series up to what he's published.

The writing has improved over the first book, as the characters are not quite so two dimensional. Rau continues to write from each character perspective, and those perspective are interesting. The first characters that appeared are to perfect - they 'trained' to be hero's all their life. The ones that appear in this book are more normal with issues, which makes it a much better story.

5.0 out of 5 stars They keep getting better March 2, 2014

They have a few editing flaws, but are more than worth the trouble! The characters and the world-view are very realistic and a little dark at times, but there is also plenty of humor.

I love the idea that some supers don't want to be heroes and some of the heroes are not super genius "batman" types. They are real people who get thrown into a situation they have trouble dealing with sometimes

More About the Author

About Kevin Rau

Born in 1970, I've been interested in fantasy and science fiction since perhaps the age of 10. I believe my love of medieval knights came about when my father built a wooden shield and sword for me to use in elementary school for some event.

Through my school years I read hundreds (or thousands? - it's hard to recall at this point) of fantasy and science fiction novels. Comic books and super heroes came a bit later, although I recall seeing the Christopher Reeve Superman movies at a very young age (and loving them). Since my later teens I believe I've watched nearly every major fantasy, science fiction, and super-hero movie that has come out.

I still love reading fantasy and science fiction, although I wish there were more novels based on superheroes. This is something that drove me to create my own supers universe and heroes in written form. I love supers, but I've always wanted more character depth than a comic book can provide. (Not to mention the immense length of time it takes for a comic series to do a story is just plain too long to me.)

Writing is a hobby for me, I'm a full-time computer programmer and systems administrator for a small company. Fortunately the skills I've learned allow me to work with 3D programs to render the characters (and covers) for my books. My hope is to put out a novel or two a year, time allowing. At this point I'd like to grow the H.E.R.O. Universe with more novels, as well as start a fantasy series at some point.
