5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing like it, July 3, 2006

I've been a devout H2O fan for years, but I've only recently completed my H2O full length collection by picking this up. I must've been insane to have lived without this CD for so long. Obviously (look at my username), H2O has had a huge impact on me as a person, more specifically the lead singer Toby Morse. I think I'm lucky that I haven't seen H2O live while this CD has been absent from my collection (actually I'm seeing them live for the first time in August), and here's why:

There isn't one bad song on here. Of course, with the exception of Go, you can pretty much say that for all of their full lengths. Most specifically, their debut album is NYHC with a little more cheerful mood to it, if you will. Songs like "Spirit of '84", "Surrounded", "Here Today, Gone Tomorrow", and especially "5 Year Plan" and "Family Tree" have extremely infectious choruses or just "crew" vocal parts in general that beg you to memorize every word. Yeah yeah yeah, so what? This can be found in every hardcore band, right? Maybe, but I can only think of a few bands, namely Warzone, that incorporate true and positive lyrics in a such a catchy yet serious manner. Sorry if that didn't make any sense.

Another great thing about this CD compared to the others is that it's FASTER. Positive, catchy, and fast is the way hardcore should be, and even if this isn't really a hardcore album, H2O stays true to their roots and delivers in a truly distinctive way.

5.0 out of 5 stars my friends lookout for me like family, August 25, 2001
This review is from: H2O (Audio CD)
first off, let it be known that my music tastes are completely polar from any resemblance of hardcore. but, $hit! this is a great cd. i had heard the cd several times following its release, but disregarded it due to its hardcore style. then i actually took time to listen. from beginning to end the subjects of the songs are great. several years later i still drop this cd in to the deck and put it on repeat. any young man will identify with the content of h2o's material, and anyone with a pulse will sing along.

this 1 cd has gotten more play on my cd players than any i have ever owned. i had bought f.t.t.w and thicker than water a while ago and then i finally found this one, it is the best cd i have ever owned. the other two are excellent also but this one seems to stand out as my favorite and i couldn't imagine a cd collection without this cd. all the songs kick.

5.0 out of 5 stars H2O rules, June 18, 2000

I finally got H2O's hard to find self titled album and it is great. Being that it is hard to find I suggest you get it whenever you see it. It is alot rawer than Thicker Than Water and F.T.T.W. and probably the best out of the 3 but ALL 3 are unbelievable. Get this cd along with Thicker Than Water and F.T.T.W. you will not regret it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Positive Hardcore Go!, September 24, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: H2O (Audio CD)
H2O are one of the few HC bands of the 90's giving a positive message in their music, and pulling it off. Their old school NYHC sound should make veterans like Agnostic Front and Warzone proud

5.0 out of 5 stars This is what it's all about., March 15, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: H2O (Audio CD)
This CD is perfect. the mix is mediocre at best, all the vocals sound like they were done first take, but that's the best thing about this album. it's completely real. The lyrics are just a little preachy, but the message is the right one, so it doesn't matter. start to finish, this CD is incredible. You could take any song off this CD and put it on a comp with any other bands you wanted, and it would automatically be the best song on the record. everyone i know with this CD has a different favorite song off it; that's how good it is. It's impossible to explain; just get it.

H2O is one of the greatest NYHC bands around today. They are full of energy and send a great message to all the hc kids out there. They are admired by all kids, from punks to straight edgers, coast to coast. They are wonderful live and are very talented guys. I can't wait to heard their new stuff. Be sure to check this out or you won't know what your missing!

5.0 out of 5 stars H2O crew, May 28, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: H2O (Audio CD)
H2O is one of the hardest working bands int the hardcore scene right now. I've been with these guys since they were closing for what ever band would let them. If you like Hardcore, Punk or ska check this album. If you want the real experience though, you neeed to see them live. No one can control a crowd like Toby.
