My kids have actually never experimented with pulling the wheels off and it's never come apart on its own.

If I could only choose 5 toys for my son, this would have to be one of them. It has entertained him through his infant months with the brightly colored animals that offer different sounds when shaken or squeezed, and it is continuing to offer great play options into toddlerhood. He can sort the animals with their wagons according to size or color. He can enjoy the wagon train in action (he is fascinated by watching the 3 wagons being pulled along). And the pretend play options with this toy are limitless. Despite the opinions of the previous reviewer, we feel that this toy is very sturdy, yet flexible (after all, the wagons are constructed of cloth covered thick foam, making it nice for younger babies). We have never had trouble with the wagons separating, no matter how quickly they are pulled or jerked along. And my son (now 12 months) has never been able to take apart the wheels. However, if he is able to in a few months, this will only provide one more way to use this toy--as a way to teach how to put together and take apart, as well as another way to sort by size. This simple toy offers so much for the creative child!

**A year later at almost 24 months, my son loves this toy more than he did at 12 months. Pull toys have been a hit over recent months, and he is beginning to create pretend scenarios with the bear, cat, and mouse along with their wagons. This toy is wonderful for open-ended play, and I would absolutely still consider it one of the best in our collection.

it is a cute toy. Even my husband had a blast playing with it. But.. I bought Haba because they are made in Germany. This toy is made in China. Makes me feel very unsafe for my baby and somewhat cheated. NOt that I have anything against China, just don't trust anything made in china for my baby

Absolutely one of the best toys I've ever purchased. It is beautifully made and can be played with in many ways. Of course, one can give the critters a ride all around the house -- even play train with the animals waiting at different "stations" here and there at household landmarks. But one can also take all the pieces apart and use them like blocks. You can stack the seats, and even stack the wooden wheels and axels. We've spent many a happy morning stacking these as high as we could and then toppling them over. There is much to be talked about when playing with this toy as well -- colors and sizes and how things can go together in different ways.

My 2 and a half year old received this last year for Christmas and still loves playing with it. She doesn't pull off the wheels and even though the cars are hooked together with a ball and loop she doesn't pull them apart. Dragging it across different surfaces the cars stay together. The animals are really cute and washable.

This company is raved about by all the green sites. The claim is that it's a German company and it uses less toxic materials than other mainstream brands. I was disappointed to see that it was from a German company that has their product made in China. How is this any different than any other brand? There is no guarantee of quality materials when you outsource. The toy is cute, but I felt really misled. I have an 11 month old and I don't give him the train yet. I let him play with the animals. The train has some small parts (like a bead that is glued on to the pull string) and the train is easy to take apart. I guess there is no such thing as a quality toy that isn't mass produced in China anymore. :(

This is a pretty cute toy. Haba sent this to us for free after buying the curioso sorter (there is a small design flaw) - by the way, great customer service! I had not even thought about buying this, it just doesn't look that great online but I'm glad we got it. It's really cute. One of the loops on one of our cars is a little too long & the cars do not stay connected (but a couple of stitches will fix that), the other one is just fine. The characters all make a noise when shaken or squeezed & the wheels axels all come off which will be good for learning how to build it later on, which I think will extend the life of this toy. The string is a little short but that is probably due to the choking hazard strings provide. Glad we got it, Thanks Haba!

This toy is very cute in the picture and also in person, but it is really not the best toy for an active toddler. First the wheels are attached with velcro which means it's another part my little 17 month old guy can rip off and throw down the stairs. Also, the three animals are connected by a small ball on one animal which is put inside of a loop on the next animal and they do not stay together when he really takes off and pulls it around the house. In the span of the first 10 minutes, I had to reattach them five times. Annoying! But it is a very pretty toy, brightly colored and the little animals are fun to squeeze. Still, I'm returning it because what I wanted was a sturdy pull toy, and this just isn't it.

My son at 10 months does like this toy. He will crawl after it and plays with it for a little while. But it is not his favorite toy and it doesn't keep his attention for long. He does take out each animal and tastes them, then likes to inspect and turn the wheels. I am hoping he will enjoy this more when he is walking and can use it as a pull toy. Right now he is busier checking out the house and practicing standing everywhere so he isn't the best judge. I will update when he is older. This is just so cute on his bookcase that I'm not sorry I purchased it, but it is hard to spend this much on one toy and not have it be a huge hit.

Update: At 13 months I brought this out again and now it is one of his favorites. He liked it even better when I took the pieces apart and took the wheels off. He loves to take the animals out and put them back in their spots. I have discovered with a lot of toys, if he isn't interested one week, just try again the next. His interests are always changing with his developmental skills.
