very good tripod for travelling light,
By Digital Puer "digital_puer" (Los Angeles, CA USA) - See all my reviews The tripod is strong enough to support small to medium size cameras; I never had a problem with my old Olympus 3030Z digicam. It can even support my Canon SLR, but it is not stable enough to mount heavy lenses that extend outward (for example, my 1.56 lb, long Canon 70-200L lens produces too much torque and tips the tripod over, but my 1.1 lb, shorter Tamron 28-75 lens is ok on it). Negatives: the legs lock with a twisting motion, which is less secure than clasps found on larger, heavier tripods. I've had the legs start to telescope down on occasion unless I've carefully locked the legs. Additionally, locking the legs at a height less than full extension is difficult as well. Overall, a very good tripod if you want to pack light. However, it does have its deficiencies as noted above.

This tripod is light and small - excellent for carrying along. The worksmanhip is also excellent - better than I had expected for this price.

Great for traveling,

I bought this tripod for my 2-week trip to Asia last summer and had it in my backpack the whole time. I never felt the "weight" of the tripod at all. It took mere seconds to "assemble" and "disassemble". To assemble, you just pull each leg all the way out; to disassemble, you just push each of the legs in.
The only reason I did not give it a 5 stars was because a couple of times, one of the legs wouldn't stay extended and start to tilt when I'm setting up the shots. Granted, I was using the compact Sony DSC-T9 digital camera. If it was a SLR camera, this tripod will definitely not be able to support the weight. Again, for compact digital camera and compact trip on a walking/hiking trip, it's a great tripod.

This is a 'travel' or 'portable' tripod and it does a great job. It is sturdier and easier to use than some previous reviewers would make you think. I'm in love and there is no better lighweight item to carry on your vacation trips, and I use it with a heavy lens on a Canon Rebel ex.

This is a great tripod. Not as light as i thought would be but still I can carry it in my backback and it doesn't take much of space. I would totally recommend it.

I just got this tripod today for our upcoming trip in California and Italy. And it looks good so far after testing it several times today. Its well built and a bit heavy which for me is a positive.
Its advertised small size made me bought this in the first place and looks like a real winner.

small and light, but limited in some ways,

Pros: small size, light weight: I can take it along on backpacking trips where a bigger and heavier tripod would be out of the question.
Cons: I would have preferred independent tilt and pan controls for the head (which would have made it easier for panning or shooting panoramas, for example). Also, as another reviewer pointed out, clasp-type locks on the legs would have made the legs lock more securely. |
