5.0 out of 5 stars Hallowed Be Thy Name
This was a fun read! Enjoyed it from the beginning and it kept me turning the page to see what happens next. Before I knew it, I was at the end and saying..oh wow, that was good!

Quoted passage: Trenton crawled to the point where the walls of the apartment intersected and then over into that space. He passed a vent and looked into the room where some men were talking. One of the voices sounded like Ming. He adjusted his angle and clearly saw the man sitting in a large, leather chair at the end of a long, oval shaped table. At least fifteen men stood around the room armed with submachine guns.

Trenton smiled and began a quiet hand-over-hand trek toward the leather chair and Ming sitting in it. He listened to the guards trying to contact others over wireless headsets in a vain attempt to locate him. He had crawled upside down along the pipe to Ming's approximate position, then Trenton pushed away hard from teh pipe with enough force to explode downward through the cardboard, ceiling tiles.

I believe that I was once vaguely interested in the story line. It is even possible that, in a few weeks, I will be able to overcome the stilted, intensely comma'd voice that I keep finding in the narration, and that I'll find myself, once again, able to skim through the book with some degree of enjoyment.

It's possible. It's not likely.

[Review written, intentionally, with as many commas as possible. I don't expect editing to be perfect, but there may have been a comma bonus written into the author's contract. You definitely get your $1 worth of commas.]

Edited to add: I give up. Our "hero" has lapsed into prayer, denials of evolution, and continued testimony regarding the eternal life he had already gained by being a Christian. I'm certain that somewhere there is, in all likelihood, a subset of sci-fi loving Fundamentalists, but I'm not one of them - and I find it difficult to really root for this side. For sale: Slightly used Kindle ebook and untouched sequel. Will meet your comma quota for next decade. Inquire within.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Modern Day Jekyll & Hyde Taken to an Extreme, August 19, 2009
This review is from: HALLOWED BE THY NAME (Omnibus Edition Including Hallowed Ground) (Kindle Edition)
This novel has a very interesting premise and hooked me at the beginning. The action and suspense was non-stop and kept me turning the pages in anticipation throughout the novel. The characters were interesting and well developed. I was somewhat disappointed with the nature of Trenton Hallowed's second "evolution" but the continued suspense and action made up for this.

Overall, a very good read. However, I must state that the tremendous number of typos created an unwarranted distraction throughout the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A cool sci-fi thriller!, January 5, 2011
This review is from: HALLOWED BE THY NAME (Omnibus Edition Including Hallowed Ground) (Kindle Edition)
This sci-fi-esque thriller was action packed and fun to read. Have read and also enjoyed the sequel, Hallowed Ground. I agree with others who mentioned the Jekyll and Hyde-like villian, but there's much more going on too. Highly recommended if you like sci-fi thrillers or action novels with people turning into monsters!

5.0 out of 5 stars A fun thriller with lots of action, November 23, 2010
This review is from: HALLOWED BE THY NAME (Omnibus Edition Including Hallowed Ground) (Kindle Edition)
I agree with others on the Jekyll and Hyde thing...the suspense in the beginning was really cool, then it turned into pure chase scene action stuff all the way to the end. A fun, quick read over the weekend. The second time the villain changes is very Hulk-like, but Hallowed changes again into something totally different, so I'm not sure why some thought this was a hulk novel, since that part was brief? I enjoyed it, especially at the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly Enjoyable!, November 22, 2010
This review is from: HALLOWED BE THY NAME (Omnibus Edition Including Hallowed Ground) (Kindle Edition)
It begins like a murder mystery in the realm of Jekyll and Hyde then opens the throttle wide to a techno-thriller with genetic experiments gone wrong, an ever-mutating villain, power hungry crime lords, and an unwilling hero who's just trying to figure out how his life got turned upside down. The action begins suspenseful, but quickly hits a pace that continually ups the ante. A fun read! I'll definitely read the second installment.

2.0 out of 5 stars It's the evil Hulk, run everyone run, August 27, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: HALLOWED BE THY NAME (Omnibus Edition Including Hallowed Ground) (Kindle Edition)
The book was quick reading, but I wasn't impressed at all.

The story line just seemed to be a rip off of the hulk story with some twists to it. Evil hulk(Trent) with a religious cousin(Jonathan) who has the same power. All created by a mad scientist(Trent) who was infected(along with Jonathan) in a accident with the formula.

There you go, that's the story. That's it.

The good, the book was cheap.

The bad, the story equaled the price of the book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Mr. Somers, you need an editor..., October 28, 2011

This review is from: HALLOWED BE THY NAME (Omnibus Edition Including Hallowed Ground) (Kindle Edition)
Let me be frank up front. I am a Christian with all that implies. Yet I did not like this book and I am not sure I am going to ever read another book by this artist. From the clumsy dialog to the sloppy plot line to the incredibly bad writing this book was a failure. For example, there is a point at which the protagonist is helping someone up. The prose reads something like "Jonathan reached out his hand and Jonathan took it." I am not kidding. Now, that may be slightly paraphrased, but the essentials are there. For example, there is a battle in an office building where the police are getting absolutely creamed. Do they stop and regroup? Does anybody say "these tactics are not working?" Nope. They continue fighting using the old methods until practically everyone is dead.

These same mistakes are made over and over and over again in this novel. I will say that those few snippets about the Christian Faith that Mr. Somers shared were pretty spot on, even if clumsily delivered, but that's about as far as I am willing to go to provide praise for this book. If you are bored silly, and for some reason absolutely nothing else is available and if you can get this book for free, then go ahead and read it. Otherwise spend your money on something else. C. S. Lewis' space trilogy is a better choice, or perhaps Kathy Tyers' Firebird trilogy if you can find it. Anything by Bill Myers makes this guy look worse than amateurish, though his Charismatic leanings come through pretty strongly. Look, just find something else to buy. This book isn't worth the effort.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kept me reading until the end!, July 24, 2011
This review is from: HALLOWED BE THY NAME (Omnibus Edition Including Hallowed Ground) (Kindle Edition)
This was a wonderful, "page" turning ebook. I started reading it at 11pm last night. Bad mistake. I didn't get to sleep until 2am! I had to finish the book. "Hallowed" is along the same lines as "Jekyll and Hyde" as well as James Byron Huggins' "Cain." Pretty good story. A little unbelievable and over the top at parts, but it IS science fiction.
