Like many new parents, I fell for the safety claims of many products hook, line, and sinker. A sleeveless sleeping bag initially struck me as absurd. However, the premise behind the sleevelessness of the Halo sacks is the lack of excess material lessens the risk of your baby placing his/har sleeved arm across his/her face and rebreathing air. This in turn lessens the risk of SIDS.

I was drawn to these products depsite the fact that the Carter's sleep sacks were A. cheaper and B. warmer. I did purchase a couple of the Carter's sacks, but felt a little afraid to use them. I asked for the Halo sacks for my shower and recieved a small and medium one.

Well, these sacks may very well indeed reduce the chance of rebreathing air. However, this cannot make up for the fact that your baby will be cold while wearing one!!! I find these bags to be somewhat useful on cool nights or on chilly days, but on cold nights, I prefer the Carters bags with sleeves. I don't see what use a SIDS-risk-reducing item is if it forces me to consider putting a blanket (big SIDS no-no) over my baby to keep him warm.

So I like this item OK for not-so-cold nights, and it is made of a very nice soft fleece that washes up well. However, overall I think it is overpriced and relies on the fears of new parents to turn a nice profit.

Skip buying this item in the newborn size; it is not necassary. We found the small size was good from the start, as far as fit. (My son was 7lbs 13oz, 20 inches at birth.)

The sleep sack is wonderful!! It saves you from worrying if baby is too warm/cold. It's easy to put on and take off. You can even change a diaper w/o taking it all the way off. We put regular pj's on at night (in Arizona) and she's perfect. When we went to WA for Christmas I added a onesie under her pj's. I love that it can't come off her and she loves the soft material. I'm going to buy a cotton one for summer w/ lighter pj's underneath. My dd is 11 months old now and she has no problem standing or crawling around in her crib with it on. Start using this as soon as you stop swaddling!

This has got to be one of the best baby products out there. I've used these on my baby since day one and he's 10 months old now. (And I plan using until he finally grows out of the XL size). It stays on all night, unlike regular blankets, and there's no worry of it bunching up by the baby's face. I have the fleece style, and found it to be warm enough over an undershirt and longsleeve pjs. (We have a fairly drafty older home and the baby's room seems to be the coldest).

Anyways, I noticed some reviewers were concerned about them being sleeveless, but they're made that way on purpose so that your baby doesn't over heat. (If you check out any SIDS info, they'll tell you to make sure not to do that). And they do come in cotton as well, for warmer months, although, I didn't have a need to use them much in the summer. As for problems with a child using this when they're able to stand or move around, I too was concerned, but found that my son has no problem standing up in his crib and he can crawl around fine when wearing it. They are a bit pricey, but for the function it serves and the peace of mind I have with it, it's worth it. This is definitely one item I highly suggest for anyone with a child under 1 year.
