This has to be the worst iron I've ever purchased. From day one it spit and sputtered water all over (ruined a silk blouse). Even the Panasonic I had for 5 years didn't do that! I don't know if it's the plate design or its weight, but it drags. Trying to put a crease in slacks, it drags the material, wrinkles it and steams it in place. It's going back.

I previously had a Black and Decker iron, and I hated many things about it. When I was looking to replace it, I was at first concerned about the low price of this Hamilton Beach iron compared to other steam irons. But I decided to give it a try, and I'm so happy I did -- it is really the best iron I've ever had. It heats up quickly, steams well, glides smoothly over the fabric, never leaks or "spits" water, has a water window that makes it easy to see the water level, and has a spray function that works well. It also does vertical steaming, although I haven't yet used it for that. The retractable cord also works great, and that's an added bonus that I really love. Why spend more when you can get all of this for less money?

I purchased this iron in April 2012 - after using it for about 7 or 8 months it started leaking water all over everything. Then the steam feature started blowing out some kind of black build up from inside the iron. When using the spray button water shoots out the top and from under the ironing plate itself. I tried cleaning it and making sure everything was okay...ultimately I had to replace it. Complete waste of money I absolutely do not recommend this iron to anyone.

Ive owned this iron for approximately 6 mos. and was happy with this "beginner" from WallyWorld for a minute. Now it's spitting on my cloths, not as hot as I would like & now "upgrading" to a different iron. I have ironed all my life, this is a middle of the road/cheap iron... Here are the plus's; non-stick is good, as is the retractable cord, steams well. Just not my cup of tea for HOT IRON & gettin er done!!!

This iron seems good with the retractable cord and auto shut off.

Trust the reviews it is the worst ever.

When you try to use the steam part it spits out black dried gunk. I tried I cleaned the iron and it still kept doing this. Then I just keep pressing the button, thinking it will clean out the stuff, but it still spits out black gunk.
I'm not sure where the heck this black gunk comes from, but ti must be a flaw built inside.

I did continue to use it as a dry iron, but after a few months the cord developed a short in it from due to the retractable feature.

You have to play around with the cord for the iron to turn on, but then it unexpectedly shuts off without warning.

This is garbage.

just bought this iron at Wal-Mart and ... so far ... it is ideal! With a full tank of water and the retractable mechanism, it is lighter than almost all other irons. The steam out-put was enough for a facial! The iron glides over fabric and effortlessly removes wrinkles. After reading other reviews, I'll update if the iron goes wonky and turns out to be a dud.

3/15/14 update - we're still lovin' this iron! Heats fast; light weight; cord retracts easily.

I am very pleased with this iron ~ it's lightweight and yet seems to have great steam capacity for easy ironing! It can be used for vertical steaming as well for steaming wrinkles out of drapes! I especially love the retractable cord which makes it much neater to store without messy cords!

I don't do that much ironing, and had given my mother my expensive Rowenta iron because hers broke down and she irons more than me. So, on that premise, I figured I'd get an inexpensive iron at Walmart because a basic would be all I'd need when and if I did iron. I can't recommend this iron because it leaks out little orange rust spots on my fabric. I had the iron sit for a long time while it had water inside, so I'm not sure if that contributed to the rusting, or if it was just the iron being cheap. I do a lot of embroidery and iron my linen fabric after washing it and when I saw these little orange spots on the linen, I freaked! No way am I using an iron that puts rust spots on my heirloom linen that took precious time to stitch. So I'm going for another brand and I'll be sure to empty out any water between long sittings and ironing.
