Makes Ice Cream as good as the big boys,
By
This review is from: HAMILTON BEACH 68120 Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Maker (Kitchen)
I dropped my beloved Cuisinart, which costs twice as much, and company was coming, so I picked up this little baby at the local Home Depot for 19.95.To my delight the operating part (the part that makes the ice cream) works JUST AS GOOD as the Cuisinart and is even slightly easier to clean! The Cuisinart has more "bells and whistle" - it has electronic controls that do things like time your cycle and play an electronic beep when it's time to add the goodies like nuts or chocolate chips or fruit. This Hamilton Beach models doesn't do that, but for 20 bucks I can add the chocolate chips without the beep! ***ONE WORD OF WARNING ABOUT THE OPERATION***: If you do like I did and ignore the instructions you may be delayed in making your first batch: You HAVE to start the machine, turning the spatula inside the cylinder BEFORE you pour in your ice cream mix - if you DON'T the liquid will freeze in just a few seconds, locking the spatula in place, and when you go to start the machine - it won't. Both of these models are VERY easy to use, quite easy to clean, not at all messy (remember the old ice cream makers where you had to add your own ice and salt.... and maybe even turn the handle by hand?!) These babies work great: You just put the "bowl" into the freezer overnight (I keep mine there in between uses so it's always ready), then take it out and a quart of your favorite recipe. Once frozen it becomes a quart and a half of good(...) stuff. You may say "Hey!!! I remember those old ice cream makers would make like a gallon of ice cream!!!" All I can say is if you need more than a quart and a half of homemade ice cream at a time you have a more serious Ice Cream Jones than I do! Definitely worth the money for the homemade ice cream fan!

HAMILTON BEACH 68120 Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Maker,
This review is from: HAMILTON BEACH 68120 Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Maker (Kitchen)
1st time I used it, i made a great tasting ice cream. 2nd try, I deviated from the recipe in an attempt to make a lowfat ice cream and failed. my fault though. Third try, I made an excellent low fat ice cream by modifying an existing recipe. The machine is great, it makes just about the right amount of ice cream.
