5.0 out of 5 stars MUST HAVE for home owner with lots of painting to do
This is an awesome little hand held paint pail. The disposable liners are readily available at Home Depot locally so that is a plus. I've used it with and without the liner and it washes up nicely if using common laxet type paints.

The magnet inside holds the brush so it isn't sitting in a full pail of paint, and is handy to always have the brush stay on...

If you do not use liners, the product does not get clean, even with plain latex. Why buy this product, then buy the liners, when I could just use the plastic containers I'm using now.

The magnet is less of a help and more of a hinderance. It does not hold a wet, 3" or above brush. What it does do is "attract" the brush when you do not intend to use it...

The magnet inside holds the brush so it isn't sitting in a full pail of paint, and is handy to always have the brush stay on the one side of the pail.

I never used one of these types of pails till someone recommended it, and I like it. I'm doing a ton of painting in my home(Trim/Walls/Ceilings/Etc) and I'm using this lots.

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes painting so much easier!, September 27, 2009

I wouldn't paint without it any more. I'm done with the sour cream etc. containers that caused trouble when painting. I recommend to use the liners too. Even if you feel that the liners are too expensive, they are worth a try. I found that they are actually easy to clean and can be reused - while the pail itself is hard to clean (tried to clean off some spills from the pail). Anyway, most of the time I just discard the liner.

The magnet is wonderful. It easily holds a 2" or 3" brush out of the paint. Right now I'm using a 4" brush. This one (while it fits very well into the pail) doesn't fit to the magnet-side, only kind of sideways, but the magnet still holds it up pretty well. If not sure, try it out right in the store, before buying it. I really enjoy that I have one hand free while getting up/down the ladder, and the wooden part of the brush stays nice and clean all along. I only fill the pail that high.

BTW I recommend another great painting helper, it is called "pour-it" and I found it in our local OSH. This is a plastic lid that locks over the outside rim and seals to the inside rim of the can. There is a screw cap (about 2" dia.) on the top. When you open a can of paint, the original lid already gets damaged. It will never seal perfectly, and it is a hassle to take it off every time you pour some more paint. Also as the rim gets filled with paint... - you know this mess. The pour-it lid closes the can airtight. You can even shake it between uses, instead of stirring the paint with a stick. It is easy to open, (even after months) and when pouring, paint goes where you want it to go, there is no need to wipe off the rim of the can, there is no mess at all. It is easy to clean and use it on the next can.

These two helpers make painting and clean up a lot easier for me.

These are the perfect containers to use for painting. Very comfortable in your hand and there is a magnet strip that your paint brush will stick to and stay out of the paint. Use these with the Paint Pail liners for EASY clean up. Would not paint without these!!

Great for small jobs and trim work. Disposable liners make cleanup a breeze. This is an indispensable item for any paint job. We've used one for over four years, can't imagine painting without it.

Do not paint a house without this thing!!!!! Buy the little protective inserts at home depot though, so that you don't spend 10 minutes cleaning it after each use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comfortable to hold for hours, November 28, 2011

I purchased the HANDy Paint Pail because it felt so comfortable in my hand. After using it yesterday, I can say that it remains comfortable even with the additional weight of paint and after hours of continuous use. I was able to focus entirely on cutting in and worked for several hours without refilling the pail or stopping to rest my hands. I paused only to reposition my ladder. Even that interruption was easier because I was able to use the pail's magnet to hold my brush.

I planned to reuse the disposable liners, but the one I used yesterday did not clean up completely. I was using primer, so they may clean up better when used with paint. I'll reuse yesterday's liner with primer as I move on to other rooms, but not with other paints.

Yes, you can use a coffee can or other container, but to me the comfort of the HANDy pail is worth the price. I must mention that I also tried holding the smaller HANDy paint cup in a store. I thought the larger pail might be too heavy once paint was added. I found that, even empty, the cup was not nearly as comfortable in my hand as the larger pail. After using the pail with paint, I'm very happy to report that those concerns were unfounded.

Edited 12/04/11 - I used the HANDy Paint Pail with a new liner again today with ceiling paint. I was able to clean the liner after use, so it was the primer that I used last week that did not clean up completely. The liners are not that thick, so they won't last forever, but it's good to know that, with regular paint, you should be able to use each one a few times if you wish.

I don't want to paint without this tool. This is a brilliant bucket with the magnet to hold your brush. I have let professional painters borrow mine and they have turned around and purchased ones for themselves. As a heavy DIY'er, I HIGHLY recommend this.

You need this if you're going to be painting, especially when it comes to doing trim work. It's the small, convenient things in life that makes you *SIGH* and say, "Thank God I got that thing. Best 'x' dollars I ever spent". This is one of those items.

4.0 out of 5 stars Can't Be Easily Cleaned But, Would Have Been 5 Stars Otherwise, November 18, 2010
This review is from: HANDy 2500-CT HANDy Paint Pail (Tools & Home Improvement)
Very clever design. A good addition to my painting tools not just a gimicky toy thingy!

Much easier on one's hand than grasping the weight of a quart of paint for an hour or more.

The magnet works up to and including the 3 inch Purdy Sash Brush I'm currently using. It does require a little positioning of the brush 'cause the brush itself is almost too wide to fit up flush on the magnet side. Once set the brush did stay against the magnet.

The sharp edge is works okay if you are a "wiper" of the brush or to remove excess paint before clean up. I'm a brush "patter"/"slapper" and the product works well for that too.

This would be a 5 star deal for me if it were not for the clean up problems. Latex is easily removed from the red plastic that makes up the majority of the pail. However... Paint on the black rubber-like rim and handle is there for good! It just doesn't come off even when cleaned promptly! I'm going to try the clear liners next.

I am giving it two stars instead of just one. The second star is because it is great for holding after job beer.
