The Handy Paint Pail was created in 2001 in classic Do-It-Yourself style. Mark Bergman was doing some painting around his house using the standard "coffee can" paint container. When Mark's hand began to tire, he designed a strap out of duct tape and the Handy Paint Pail was born. The built in bracket, magnetic brush holder, roller grid and tool and rag holder makes this multi-use pail the perfect answer for any project on or off a ladder. In 2008, Bercom made some changes and improvements to their existing products and expanded their product line, beginning with the color of the pails. Bercom believed that if they urge their customers to continuously change colors, why shouldn't they? Not to mention the new color was extremely eye catching! So, after five years of producing gray pails, Bercom changed the color to red. Following that trend, Bercom changed the color of the Pro Series Paint Pail, made it lighter in weight, lower in price, and re-named it the Handy Roller Pail. In addition, requests from customers wanting to attach the Roller Pail to a ladder led to the creation of the Handy Ladder Hook. Not only does this item secure the Handy Roller Pail or a standard paint can to any ladder, this mini-bungee can be used for many other applications. The most exciting and successful new product from Bercom in 2008, however, was the Handy Paint Cup. This new entry-level paint cup hit the ground in a dead sprint. Although it does not have all the features as the original Handy Paint Pail, it grants the customer the ability to afford something similar. The disposable Handy Paint Cup holds up to a pint of paint and has a built in magnet, which makes it perfect for trim work and craft projects! I recently used this bucket while painting the soffits / facia of my house. The ability to have the paint, roller, and brush handy without having to constantly go down and up the ladder was outstanding. The bucket included one liner wish washes out very well and I see no need to get more. Made in USA as well. I highly recommend this bucket for painting.

This ladder pail made it easy to handle both a roller and paint brush. The hook is oriented to be on the right side of the ladder and rests solidly around the side of the ladder. If you want to use the pail on the left side, you have to attach the hook from the back side of the ladder rather than the front. The pail sits solidly on the ground and does not tip over, which makes it versitile for painting the house exterior.

A note for oil-based paint users: Other reviewers say the paint peels off the liner. If using an oil-based primer, save yourself time and buy extra liners when you buy the ladder pail. The oil-based primer does not peel off the liner. After several hours of use with oil paint, the paint builds up and covers the ridges for the paint roller. I ended up buying a metal paint roller grill at the hardware store and hung it over the side of the bucket so I could finish the job using the same liner.

I'm buying a pack of the replacement liners to use for the latex paint top coat.
HANDy 4510-CT HANDy Ladder Pail Liners, 2-Pack I look forward to being able to peel off the latex paint and reuse the liner.

This was just the sort of paint pail I was looking for when I painted my house just recently and far exceeded what I found in local stores. The size was just right to avoid climbing up and down the ladder too much.

The construction was solid and durable. I like the magnetic paint brush holder and the hook for keeping the pail on a ladder. If you have a Werner ladder that folds and extends you may find it may tend to slide away from the side sometimes, so take caution and that is where I give this four stars. It got the job done on the ladder and off the ladder. My pail also came with a pail liner, which also did a good job.

Another good reason I bought this was because it was made in the USA and the response when contacting Bercom was fast.

I will be keeping this pail for future painting or for other chores around the house. Durable and a nice design at a nice price.
