Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: HARMAN/KARDON DVD 38 DVD PLAYER WITH HDMI & DVD AUDIO (Electronics)
The slim styling and excellent performance make this a unit that is worth every penny I paid for it. Controls are as easy to use as any I've encountered. All in all, a DVD player that I am sure to enjoy for years to come. My hat's off to Harman/Kardon. The HDMI output is a real plus. Thank you Amazon for an excellent buy.

good sound, does not last long,

It is my second attempt to buy an HK DVD player. I mostly care for music, and each had great sound quality. However, they do not last long. After a year or two the DVD playback starts skipping, pixelating and simply getting stuck. Frequent lens cleaning helps for a while, but then one day it is unable to read the cleaning CDs anymore.Opening it and cleaning the lens carefully with alcohol sometimes helps to prolong its life a little. It happened to my first player (I think it was DVD26), and now exactly the same story with this one. I am now looking for a different brand for DVD player (but the HK receiver is excellent).

Not Living Up To Its Brand,
This review is from: HARMAN/KARDON DVD 38 DVD PLAYER WITH HDMI & DVD AUDIO (Electronics)
I'll start out saying that when it works, it works very well. I run it to my Harman Kardon Receiver with sound and video quality that meet my expectations.Unfortunately I've been frustrated with weird pauses every other DVD or so. Usually just once during a movie. Of course it's not enough to make me go out to buy a different player, but enough that I won't buy a HK brand Blu-Ray player if one comes out. I'll say that these pauses don't require to me do anything, as the movie will resume after a couple of seconds; but, it's enough to be a little embarrassed when friends come over for a movie night. In conclusion, if you've found a killer deal on one or already own one, it's not the worst thing to happen. But, I'd look elsewhere if you have other choices.
