Editorial Reviews

Review

"And just when you think there's already a book for every facet of guitar playing, Hal Leonard offers Harmonics for Guitar. In addition to the obvious tuning-friendly natural harmonics, the book also touches on artificial harmonics: tapped, plucked or harp, and pinch. Check out the chordal and melodic applications." - Guitar One

5.0 out of 5 stars Natural & Pinch Harmonics, February 17, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: HARMONICS FOR GUITAR: THE COMPLETE GUIDE BK/CD (Paperback)
After skimming the other books of harmonics, I purchased Harmonics of Guitar. The teaching of the text is presented in a very comfortable one-on-one manner. I tried the examples of the natural, pinch...and I created the "chime" and the "scream"... I wanted.
This book is a must for all guitarists. I plan to buy D. Brewster's Effects book also because he says it all, and he teaches as well as informs. I recommend this for your library of guitar.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great book!, June 25, 2003

If you have ever had any questions about those little sounds that you hear guitarists use (harmonics), this book will answer it for sure.
It has some great musical examples, and a handy fretboard diagram that maps natural harmonics all over the neck.
There are also some good photos that show you where to place you hands on the strings for the various techniques you'll perform while playing the examples.
I've bought a lot of books over the years, but this one is now one of my favorites. It's short and sweet, and the final song/jam is a nice way to round out this awesome book.
I've been to the authors web site, and he has another book coming out about guitar tone through Hal Leonard.
I can't wait to see that one!
Trust me, this is a very well written and solid instructional book.
If you want to know more about harmonics, this is the ticket!

5.0 out of 5 stars this book is a must have!, April 28, 2005
This review is from: HARMONICS FOR GUITAR: THE COMPLETE GUIDE BK/CD (Paperback)
I just bought this book recently, and i must say it is a worthy addition to my library of guitar books.
i have always been mystified by harmonics, and i've been hearing them all the way back to zz top and evh all the way up to new bands like staind and a perfect circle.
harmonics are cool and this is a great book to teach you what these chiming things are and how you can use them in your own music and playing.
the examples are inspiring and good and give you plenty of fresh ideas using harmonics.
i really like the volume swell idea and the special effects like the elephant sound and especially the final song/track, with the really cool guitar parts to play around with.
david is a good player and shows you how to finally gain control of harmonics in your music.
a worthy addition to any guitarists library.
