Product Description

The HCO Panda GSM scouting camera sends photos to your email or cellphone via the GSM/GPRS cellular network. The camera can be triggered by motion or by a timer(also known as time lapse function). With its balanced two banks of invisible blackout flash, you can get high quality night time photos and videos without spooking the game or draw any attention when they go off. This also prevents the “hot spot” in the night time photos. With its 50ft detection range and 1s trigger speed, you won't miss a thing. The Panda will support SD cards up to 32G. When your SD card is full, the camera will overwrite the early photos and keep taking new photos. In addition to wildlife monitoring, the HCO Panda is also a great camera for surveillance. HCO Panda GSM features: *6MP high quality photo *Sends photos to phone or email via GSM wireless network *Built in 1.5” color display *Photo playback *Support SD card up to 32GB *High-output Invisible IR LEDs *Fast trigger time of 1.1s *Detection range: 50ft *Two Phase Time lapse: 5s+ interval *Overwrite function *Camera rename function *User-friendly interface *8xAA & improved power management *Access Control (password protection) *Date , Time, Temperature, Moon phases and Power stamps on image *Weatherproof

WARNING: BEFORE YOU PURCHASE THIS UNIT, MAKE SURE YOU'VE GOT AT LEAST FOUR (OUT OF FIVE) BARS OF SIGNAL STRENGTH ON YOUR CELL PHONE AT THE EXACT LOCATION WHERE IT WILL BE DEPLOYED, OTHERWISE, IT JUST WON'T WORK. Continue reading...

I hate to knock this camera, and I hate to send it back, but it looks like the cellular signal isn't strong enough where I hunt. So why am I knocking it? Well, I was informed by HCO technical support that this camera operates on the older 2G network, so those signals are weaker off the tower than 3G or 4G, meaning that even if you have three or four bars on your cell phone, this camera may not work.

Case in point, I was sitting inside my hunting house near McDavid, Florida in the panhandle with my iPhone 5. It is just off of Hwy 29 that connects Pensacola to the north end of the county. Of course, I forgot to silence it and it rings. The person left a voice mail that I listened to. I was wondering what time sunset was, so I jumped on Safari and googled it. It downloaded quickly as usual. But when it came time to turn on the Panda and acquire the signal, it repeatedly had a log in failure. My hunting plot is within ATT's 2G coverage area according to their map, but then again, I can't use my cell phone in my own house (without a micro tower) despite the fact that I'm supposedly in the "good" 4G LTE coverage area.

I ordered the longer enhanced antenna. I hoped it would allow the Panda to log in from within my house because that would be an improvement over the stock antenna, but it looks like I'll still have to go outside.

I'll test this new antenna at my hunting club this weekend and report back. I'm not too optimistic.

Follow HCO's inscructions to the letter on paper and their you tube videos. Find a knowledgeable rep at AT&T or T-mobile (whoever you use) to activate a sim card and set up the account. Everything is finally set up and adjusted and it works great. HIGHLY RECOMENDED

Overall, I'm very pleased with this camera. For it's core function, taking pictures of wild game, I would consider it about average for trigger speed and quality (nothing special ... but nothing bad). For the cellular function, it works fine for me with an AT&T plan.

Like others, I had a few initial issues with setup. What I found was that you need to follow the instructions to the letter and you will be fine. If you go back into the menu on the cam and make ANY changes or *review the sys settings* go back and rerun the setup. You can experiment, but that is the simple, always works solution to the "it suddenly stopped working" problem that people report. (The fix that works for me is to NOT go into setup in the field unless I have my laptop on hand to rerun the setup util.)

PROS:
Average camera performance
Convenience of receiving pictures without visiting your feeder

CONS:
Reviewing or tweaking setup in the field can disable cellular function.

What i like most about this cam... is that it is easy to open it up, pull your card out & put it back in.....in that you do not need to go through the trouble of unlocking your cable then having to re-position & relock the camera.....very simple & quick.
On the downside...when motion activated the camera makes an audible click ......and most animals do hear it.....although if the camera is left up for awhile they will likely acclimate to it....or perhaps avoid it altogether?
Also, it seems to be a bit slow on the draw....meaning sometimes there is just nothing in the picture....apparently the animals exit the target area just before the camera activates.
I do not use the wireless cell alert feature of this unit as i have so many critters running around i would be getting calls all through the night & never get any sleep! So i cannot comment one way or another on it's functionality.
Another thing i find impressive is battery consumption....my camera has been taking movies & pics every night for the past 3 months & is still going strong on the original set of batteries.
All in all, although not perfect....i like this camera as it adequately fits my needs as a game/security cam.

Set up was a "bisch". Part of the set up process was to go out and buy, batteries, an SD card, and an Sim card. Then go to my phone carrier and open up a new line. The setup on the unit was confusing. The buttons and display were confusing. The instructions were poor. Set up took a whole 1/2 day of running around and playing with the unit. I contemplated returning this thing many times.

Once set up, it was awesome. It did what it said it will do. I get pictures text directly to me. I can remotely tell it to take a picture and send to me.

The picture quality is far below my iphone or my Simply Cam made by Closeli. Good enough to see deer/animal activity. However, for security purposes, the quality will likely not clear enough to provide a license plate number, especially at night.

I will keep what I bought but will not buy another.

Update: March 2015. Over the winter (hunting season), the camera hardly worked for unknown reasons. During the last two moths in February and March, it has not worked at all. I have no idea why. I cannot return this product either b/c the distributor has a 14 day return policy.

Total junk now unless I can find time out of my days to figure out how to make this thing work again. Total pain in my rear. Urggh
