I have a huge collection of Hawaiian videos, and having recently purchased a Blu-ray machine, I was really looking forward to this disk. Visually it is outstanding. Hawaii, having some of the most beautiful scenery in the world, is an ideal location for HD.

So why didn't I give this disk five stars? Unfortunately, like many mainland productions, this disk does not use Hawaiian music. Instead it uses music that is one notch up from elevator music. As I watch this disk in the future, I'll either only listen to the nature track, or I'll put on the Hawaiian music feed from Dish Network.

Never-the-less, for those who love Hawaii's beauty, or for those who have yet to experience it, I highly recommend this disk, which means I recommend it for everyone.

If you have a nice HD system then this will really show it off. It can be played with music or just the natural sounds, or both.

Please keep in mind that this isn't a travel log movie showing different places to visit in Hawaii. This is an HD Window into the world of Hawaii. Enjoy a relaxing hour as you view scenes like you are really there because of the HD config of this dvd. All that's missing are the warm breezes and scent of plumeria. My only complaint is that the nature sounds aren't congruent with the scene; i.e. a distance shot of a bay has loud crashing wave sounds.

I love the repeat feature of this dvd. Select repeat and use it as a background to your Luau or tropical theme party in January in the northeast!!!!! I rented it from Netflix and meant to use it at my husband's 50th birthday party but forgot.

We visited Oahu and Maui back in '94. This is a great reminder of what that wonderful island was like. You can virtually feel the small waves wash over your feet. We frequently runs this blu-ray on our 42" while reading or just talking and relaxing.

Just one slight snag, it's 1080i - not 1080p.

Not a big fan of the music that goes along with the movie, but I just mute it and play something that I'd like to accompany the scenery on my stereo. Love reading while this is playing because my ideal vacation is to read on the beach. And sometimes this can be better than the real thing as you don't have to worry about sunscreen, etc... SOMETIMES. Hard to beat the real thing, but when you and your friends don't have a beach house readily available, this is a nice alternative. It always brightens the atmosphere in my apartment, especially during the winter months!!

I bought this video to use as background while I'm reading, studying, or working. The scenery is gorgeous if you enjoy scenes of lush landscapes, and other scenes not normally found on videos of Hawaii. I tried it both with the music and with nature sounds only. I found myself wishing it had bee longer because it had some exceptional scenes in it. It is a little like a moving screensaver, but a very relaxing experience.

To be clear: this series is the video equivalent of ambient music. Each shot is generally filmed with a stationary camera and lasts possibly a minute. It is not meant as a 'tour'. I knew this going into it.

A minimum of 50% of the video, possibly as much as 75% (I wasn't going to waste my time clocking it), is the camera looking out at the ocean with its waves crashing on a little strip of sandy beach in the foreground. All of this footage could have been taken anywhere along virtually any temperate coast. Most of the rest of the shots in the video were of things that, while not quite as generic, could have been filmed in multiple places on the planet. Heck, even with the sandy beaches, there wasn't any effort spent to get a shot of one of Hawaii's more unique black-sand beaches.

There were only a few shots that were clearly Hawaiian (e.g. maybe two or three shots of the more familiar striated cliffs covered with greenery, but only one shot of a waterfall coming out of a cliffside). Those amounted to less than five minutes total time. There wasn't a single shot of a volcanic peak, and nothing resembling a lava flow (fresh, or solidified).

The video quality was adequate (given the limited movement and minimal content in most shots), and honestly I was listening to my own music with it, rather than the generic jazz on the soundtrack, so I barely heard any of it.

There was a minimal amount of inarguable 'Hawaii' in the footage for the 50 minutes this lasted. If all you want is 'waves on sandy beaches' (which, using the 'non-music' sound, might be nice for relaxation), they you'll likely enjoy this.

Hello; This one is slow! But I like it. You will se a video clip during each Jazz song, with lappig water on the beach. You have to relax with a cool drink for about an hour, and you will think you were there.
