39 pin connector not 40,

Many of the cable manufactures (like this one) have converted to making the female connector with only 39 pin holes to match the newer male pin config. However some older systems still have all 40 male pins in the IDE connectors, making these 39 pin female connector cables non-compatible. So if you're updating an older system, replacing parts, or just giving it a complete over-haul be advised, the IDE cables need to be checked closely before you just toss them.

I purchased an internal storage hard drive and the OEM cable did not have connections for an additional drive. Purchasing this cable allowed me to install the additional hard drive with ease without missing a beat.

It's a 40-pin IDE cable and it works. Not much else to say about it! The notable thing about it is its price. It's the least expensive one I've found, and a lot less hassle than driving to my local consumer electronics store to buy one when the last cable I thought I had went missing.

My 80GB drive disappeared from my system. Don't know whether it was the cable, the bios settings, or the jumper settings, but once I replaced the old IDE cable with this one, made the drive master, and set the BIOS to both primary and secondary IDE, I now see the drive in My computer. System eventually froze when trying to access the drive, but I did a Check drive and used the 2 fix options available and it seems to be working OK. It still will not recognize the drive for booting, but it may be because I have another controller involved. Someday, I might have to get it booting by disabling or removing the controller. Cable seems to be working fine. I bought 2 of these and am still waiting to employ the second.
