Please be carefull when ordering these type of cales, this cable is DVI-I, and in my particular case it worked fine.
Other reviewers are complaining that the cable does not work. This is because some monitors use DVI-D connector instead of DVI-I.
Please see this link with pictures so you can see the difference between DVD-I and DVI-D. [...]

My video card has a VGA out and a DVI-I out. I've been only using the VGA output. Found an extra VGA monitor laying around and wanted a dual monitor set-up, so I needed a DVI-I to VGA. This worked perfectly. When it comes to computing, disregard people who make definitive statements like DON'T BUY THIS, or THIS DOES NOT WORK. If you know anything about computers, then you know there are so many variables as to why things don't work such as old hardware, firmware, drivers, etc. You need to trial and error yourself and don't take other people's word for it. Especially when you buy from Amazon, if it doesn't work out, you can return it.

Just make sure you know the difference between DVI-I and DVI-D. This cable is for DVI-I. Do what I did, if you're not sure. Go to yahoo search engine and search DVI-I vs DVI-D. Then click on images. The very first image explains it all. Then go to you computer and take a look at your connection and see which one you have. This is probably one of the reasons why people say the cable doesn't work. They are buying the wrong cable!!

If you are setting up a second monitor, go with the proper cable.
I'm not sure if it says, but this cable also has the ferrite bead on it, so you
don't have to worry about outside noise. (It's the same as the factory cable)
I am running a ViewSonic P225 and a new Dell monitor (on top) through a GeForce 6200 and a windows xp3 op sys.
The Dell hook up was clean with this cable and I did not have to mess around with
DVI-I to VGA plugs or Gender interfaces.
It makes the set up much cleaner.

I got this cable to replace a VGA cable using a DVI-I dual link adabter that was giving me some occasional color problems. It works fine and I'm having no quality issues after a couple days of use. I like the cable's design as well, it has nice easy to grip fasteners with slotted indents at the ends and plenty of clearance to tighten with a screwdriver if desired. I would heartily recommend this to anyone looking to replace a VGA cable using a DVI-I dual link adapter.

Note: It does have a ferrite bead on it, though you can't see it in the picture.

I was looking for a way to connect a Mac Mini to my LCD TV. The Mac Mini came with a DVI 24+5 female out and my TV requires a VGA male. I tried various things with no success. I also bought an adapter (no cable). It did not work. I found this cable for less and it worked great! If you have a similar need, give this a try.

As others have noted, this is a DVI-I cable (all pin slots filled), but that is not the reason for my paltry review score. Note also that I needed the cable to siphon VGA output on my PC to a DVI-I input on my monitor.

I bought this cable to replace a similar one that came with my used monitor, which displays beautifully until it detects I'm working on something important and starts to flicker, like it's mocking me for some long-dead binary sin. I can't tell if this one has the same problem, because the moment after I plugged it in and discovered a mortifying level of ghosting I ripped it from my display and immediately exorcised my laptop with a cross-shaped USB drive. I am currently seeking a refund for the cable and counseling services for my computer.

This product converts the DVI output on a newer computer to VGA input on an old monitor with no problems.

This product does not work properly. It cannot even manage the task of sending an image of he proper resolution to the second monitor and the image it does send is a garbled mess. This was tested on two identical monitors that have swapped in and out with no problems before installation of the splitter.

Been looking around for a secondary monitor for a bit, still am, but I got to thinking about my barely used 32" lcd tv that was just sitting in the box. Did a little digging to find this little number of a cable, and it works perfectly since my tv only has a VGA port and my computer has a pair of DVI's. The cable has worked perfectly fine in the 2 or 3 months since I purchased it. No issues.

Used this on my computer and it was broadcasting a resolution of 1400x900 which is a complete garbage resolution. Popped in a HDMI cable and even a VGA cable and got my 1920x1080 resolution. This was a complete and utter waste of money and I will never purchase from this company again.

Thanks for the cheap, poor quality cable.
