I got this to give me basic control of XBMC on the Rasberry Pi. I've tested it on OpenElec but not Raspmc. There is no reason this wouldn't work on Raspmc as well though.

It's not programmable but has the basic keys I needed like left / right arrow, esc and similar keys. Since it mimics a USB keyboard no drivers were needed. It's cheap and the documentation is awful but it does the job.

I use this PC remote control to navigate my media center computer that runs XBMC. Other than turning on the PC manually, a fault of the PC, the rest of enjoying my listening and viewing pleasure is with the remote. All the functions are on the remote, including exiting XBMC to Windows and properly shutting down Windows and turning off the PC. The buttons are grouped easily enough the be able to operate it in a dimly lit room without being able to see the button labels. That's all I ask for in any remote, as I need glasses to read (not in a dimly lit room), but I don't need glasses to watch TV.

Pretty much useless as a remote; only works within about 22"-24" inches of the receiver, and only if you aim it EXACTLY dead center at the IR receiver. Perhaps my unit is faulty, I've tried two new sets of AAA batteries, not getting anywhere near the 18 meter range claimed in the description.

Honestly I've never used the remote that came with this--only the receiver. I hooked it up to my PC and use my Logitech Harmony 650. It required no setup on my Windows 8 machine--it was totally plug and play. It seems to be recognized as a keyboard-type peripheral. By the way, I am primarily controlling XBMC, although I occasionally pause and skip tracks on Spotify with it. For more advanced operations I use a Logitech K400r keyboard/trackpad combo which I also highly recommend. I programmed it into the Harmony remote as a Chinavision CVSB-983--searching for HDE in the MyHarmony setup will not work. At first I had the receiver sitting just under my TV, and occasionally the remote would just start scrolling uncontrollably at the single push of a button. The only remedy seemed to be unplugging it and plugging it back in. However, once I relocated it to a different area of my entertainment center, the problem stopped. I think something reflective on the TV or its stand could have been interfering with the device.

Got this for my raspberry pi running raspBMC. Worked right out of the box and promptly died 10 minutes later. Attempted swapping to brand new batteries, nothing, no lights coming on. Not even worth the hassle to replace this item via seller for the price I paid; decided to spend a bit more and get a better MCE remote.

I use this as a backup remote for my Raspbmc media center. My primary remote is the "Yatse" app for my android phone. This remote and sensor don't always pick up the signal on the first try, but it does get the job done.

I am used to the "Windows 7 Vista XP Media Center MCE PC Remote Control and Infrared Receiver for Home, Premium and Ultimate Edition" but need a 2nd remote. Build another HTPC for the bedroom and thought this remote would work just as good one I was used to. Plugged this remote in and drivers loaded just fine. However, when I pressed a button like up/down/left/right the action would get stuck like I was holding the button. Only unplugging the receiver would stop the action. Same results in Windows Media Center and XBMC. Returned this remote and purchased a 2nd "Windows 7 Vista XP Media Center MCE PC Remote Control and Infrared Receiver for Home, Premium and Ultimate Edition" http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00224ZDFY/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. 10 bucks more but worth it as I have never had issues with this other remote.

I bought 2 of these on the other reviews to use on RPI xmbc installs (openelec).
They DO NOT function properly, and the button layout sucks. Do yourself a favor and spend a couple more bucks on something better.
I have one of the original M$ MCE remotes which works perfectly, I wish I could get another.
Hope it helps..

I bought tow of these remotes.
Both did the exact same thing: they work the very first time I used them and then they never work again.
I have no idea why or what the issue might be but both did the exact same thing.
