I installed these lights on a Saab 900SE next to a set of KC Pencil Beam driving lights. While they are not the quality of the KC lights, they are nevertheless reasonable quality and VERY good value for the money.
Install was typical - no easier or harder than installing any other brand. Light output with 55 watt bulbs is EXCELLENT with a TIGHT, LONG RANGE BEAM. Not quite as focused as the KCs - but there isn't much in it -- and the light output seems as bright as the KCs with 100 watt bulbs. Because the housing is plastic I have not run the Hella's with 100 watt or 130 watt bulbs, I may give it a try during the winter. For me the wiring harness was a little light -- especially since I commonly use 100 watts bulbs, but so long as you use a relay to switch the lights and keep the runs short it will be more than adequate - but I'm an "overkill" type when it comes to wiring so I replaced the harnesses with #12 Tefzel (aircraft) wire for each light and everything is relay switched with very short cable runs. I would certainly buy them again - and will probably replace the KCs with the Hellas next time a rock takes them out. The Hella kit with two lights cost less than one replacement lens for the KC Summary - Excellent lighting, fair quality construction, great value for money.

I bought these to replace the factory fog lamps on my wifes 2004 Subaru Forester, which were trashed from 130K of hard use. Had to do some "creative engineering" to get them to fit into the holes in the front bumper but they came out great! The wiring instructions are a little bit hard to follow and mt lights didn't include them in the package (downloaded the PDF [...]) Once I puzzled them out the wiring harness is well thought out and made installing the light pretty bomb-proof. I highly recommend these for daily, on-road use.

Ok, the 500FF driving lights are a good design in how it projects the light in front of the vehicle. I have been driving with Hellas in both my cars and 4x4s since 1985. They make damn good driving lights both on and off-road. I say that the 500s in stock form do a nice job in the city. However, if you do any off-roading and these are the only auxilary lights you have then I would recommend upgrading the bulbs to a 100W or 130W. Of course the modification will make them unusable in city driving.
Personally I have adopted these as fog lights with crystal ion fog bulbs from PIAA. The PIAA bulbs and Hella 500s are a perfect match and work great in snow and dense fog. I don't like the conventional fog lights because the light pattern spreads too much light above the hood which is not needed. I have a FJ Cruiser with a grill guard where these puppies are mounted on the lower crossmember close to the ground. This is the best place for them. However, the pair of 500s are not enough to illuminate the back roads of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where I drive at night. If you want to get excellent illumination I HIGHLY recommend the Hella Rallye 4000s with the Hella 130W optional bulbs. I have these mounted above the 500s on the top crossmember of the brush guard (same height as the factory headlights) . When you turn the 4000s on at night I will guarantee you that you will see EVERYTHING in front of the vehicle to 1/2 mile!

I had the Hella 550 series rectangular lights in clear and amber on my '90 Jeep Wrangler for the past 21 years. I just added a winch with a new bumper, and wanted a different look. What I was actually able to do was utilize the harness from the 550's for these new lights (didn't change the switches or wiring at all). Placed them on the upper part of my Smittybilt Rockcrawler bumper, and connected to the existing wires. They look awesome! (I reused the amber 550's on the lower flat part of the bumper). I was somewhat hesitant since the H-1 bulbs have been around for so many years. I seriously considered getting HID's but I have HID's on two other vehicles I own and it seems that I'm always changing either a bulb or ballast, so I opted for the Hellas (No regrets!!). These are definitely bright enough for me. As a matter of fact, with the 550's (same bulb, just a smaller rectangular housing) I would always get people "flashing" me their high-beams if the were slightly mis-aligned;they are pretty bright. Now that I have these placed at a much higher location, with my 33" tires and 4" lift, I don't think I'll be using them except for when I'm on back country roads in Upstate NY or in Vt where I drive frequently.
Bottom Line- I don't think you will find a better housing and bulb for the price listed.

This is my 6th set of Hella 500FF lights. I've never had a problem, they work very well and the beam coverage is great. I wouldn't trade for a set of KC's.

With the stock 55W bulb, the light is a bit dim, however they are cheap, seem well constructed and serve their purpose. Im planning in changing the bulbs to 100W, i've seen some and are way brighter.

These were a gift for my son, the wannabe Subaru rally driver. He's old enough to know better, but... The negatives about the set was the lack of clear instructions, the diagram leaves much to the imagination, if you've never installed lights before, and the illuminated switch provided is very small. Again, the instructions show a nice toggle switch to replace a blank in the console, nope, not what you get. It works fine.
Otherwise, good construction and will illuminate a reflective road sign at 1/2 mile. Too powerful for general highway driving, but at night in the cornfields of Illinois super lights.

I installed these with amber lens covers and the brush shields on our Toyata 4Runner, mounting them on the grille guard. The switch could be improved with a lighted switch feature, but they work well.

This is the third vehicle that I have put Hellas lights on and I found them to be what I had expected. They were easy to install on my bull bar and they light up the night. I use them often when driving at night here with all the deer we have. Good reflective distance. A solid product.
