Short but worth reading,
By Judith Loriente (Melbourne, Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: HENRY VIII: The Tudor Tyrant (Paperback)
At only 130 pages, this book is so short that it cannot really be called a biography of Henry VIII. It doesn't have end notes or even a bibliography, and provides only a swift summary of the main events of Henry's reign. Yet even for someone who has read dozens of books about the Tudor Age, reading it didn't seem a waste of time. Rex writes well, clearly and concisely, and the book does not appear to have any factual errors. It's also impressively illustrated, with 81 pictures, including portraits of Catherine or Aragon and Jane Seymour that I had never seen before.
Those wanting to read a proper biography of Henry VIII will not find what they're after here. But this book would make a good introduction for those who don't know much on the subject, and don't want a weighty tome that might bombard them with too much information at once. Even those who do know a lot on the subject will probably still enjoy it. |
