When a friend of mine heard that I had ordered a tab/sheet music book of the Sex Pistols album, he joked, "Oh, so you're gonna find out how many different ways you can play an A chord?"

While its true that the Pistols music will never go down as the most complicated rock 'n' roll around, there were two main reasons I wanted to see an artist approved tab book for this album:

Reason A) Steve Jones is underrated as a guitarist. Many people think that the Sex Pistols were inept at playing their instruments and the music going into their songs was really simplistic. While Sid Vicious didn't know what he was doing, Paul Cook was no slouch on the drums and Steve Jones did some really cool things on this album if one bothers to pay attention. He does play lots of chords but in and around all those chords are all these Johnny Thunders-ish leads and asides. And I really wanted to know what lead stuff he was all playing because...

Reason B) Whenever I go online and check out some fan submitted Sex Pistols tabs, most of them totally suck. I don't know why but apparently nobody interested in tabbing out Pistols songs has any idea what they're doing.

Anyway, this book is great. It gives you accurate tabs on all of the twelve songs on "Nevermind the Bollocks..." including every fill and solo you might be hearing while listening to the album.

Its been very useful to me, especially since about two weeks after I got the book I played a show where we covered two Pistols songs in the set ("Submission" and "Pretty Vacant") and while I knew the chords to them already it really helped to have access to the leads and fills played in those songs.

Other things I've learned since I bought this book:

-The solos I played for "God Save The Queen" and "No Feelings" were way off.

-For the last year I had been playing both "Holidays In The Sun" and "EMI" in the wrong key.

-The last part of the main riff of "Problem" is actually a few double stops and notes instead of just playing A with a blues shuffle (as I HAD been playing the song).

Anybody interested in playing the songs from "Bollocks" shouldn't hesitate to pick this book up, it really helped me learn how to "play it like it is."
