Better Than Apple 23" for less money w/longer warranty!,
By New York Photo Pro (Cleburne, TX (South of Ft. Worth)) - See all my reviews
This review is from: HEWLETT PACKARD (P9615A#ABA) HP Flat panel monitor L2335 U.S. - Engli (Electronics)
This monitor is singularly the best I've ever owned. I was looking for a new LCD to replace my aging Sony Trinitron. I wanted something to work with my G4/450 Macintosh (Sawtooth) with a Mac Radeon 9000 Pro card in the AGP slot. The Mac Radeon card has a DVI connector and a native resolution of 1920x1200. However, I didn't want to pay $2,000 for the Apple 23 inch LCD, new version or older version. I found the L2335, checked all the specs with HP and MacMall, but neither could confirm that the display would work perfectly with my setup. When MacMall said they'd take it back if I had a problem, I decided to risk it. What a stroke of luck!!! Not only does it work flawlessly, it is actually the exact same display, with the exact some features, specs and components as the Apple 23 inch (without the aluminum frame, of course) and it costs $1,580 at MacMall ($420 less than Apple's) and comes with 3 times Apple's warranty! The price is less here too but not as much of a discount as at MacMall (are you listening Amazon?). But with 3 years parts, 3 years labor AND 3 year ON-SITE, this is a no-brainer for anyone wanting an Apple 23 inch but who doesn't want to pay the Apple tax.

Great Gaming Monitor & LCD TV,
By 1st (New York City) - See all my reviews
This review is from: HEWLETT PACKARD (P9615A#ABA) HP Flat panel monitor L2335 U.S. - Engli (Electronics)
It's great for gaming with a PC via DVI or a XBox via component video inputs. I saw no ghosting while playing Far Cry, UT2k4 or Doom 3 @ 1920x1200. With a 16ms response rate, the LP2335 plays games just as good if not better than traditional CRT monitors. At 3 feet, you can't see any LCD grain or artifacts. The sharpness and 3D sensation from Hi-Def 720p & 1080i material is exceptional. Virtually no delay in action sequences. The amazingly bright whites & blacks are very true for a LCD. Much better than my Apple 23" Cinema Display (M9178LL/A) at work or my friend's Samsung 243T. With it's pivot capabilities and its numerous adjustability options this monitor should please even the most demanding. Thank you Hewlett-Packard.
Pros: 16:9 widescreen format; 16ms response time. DVI, VGA, S-Video & Component HDTV video inputs; Picture-in-Picture; Integrated power supply; Pivot capabilities (swivels to portrait mode). Cons: Not HDCP enabled; No remote control.

Best value for 23" widescreen LCD flat panel,
By Kakaroto (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews

For $1700 (or less), this 23" LCD screen rocks. The screen showed no noticeable ghosting when watching fast motion video or playing action games. Texts displayed on screen in 1900x1200 resolution are *crystal clear* when using DVI-D cable connecting to ATI 9600XT. 8 pt fonts are easily readable. The quality of images and texts displayed is as good as the Samsung 243T and the Sony 23" screens I saw at Fry's.
Futhermore, this screen has the necessary scaling controls for displaying various resolutions that do not conform to 16:10 aspect ratio. Yup. If you need to play games in 4:3 aspect ratio modes, this screen can fill the screen and retain the intended aspect ratio. This is one feature I could not find on the Samsung 243T and Sony screens at Fry's. (The only 23" screen at Fry's that has this scaling option is the HP F2304 which is the more expensive sibling of L2335 with built-in speakers).

Excellant Picture using DVI input,
This review is from: HEWLETT PACKARD (P9615A#ABA) HP Flat panel monitor L2335 U.S. - Engli (Electronics)
This monitor rocks. Replaces my old Eizo L375 (15" LCD). Connected to a ATI 8500 DV All-in-Wonder video card DVI port and a Compaq EVO N800v VGA port. The picture is much shaper with the DVI port. The S-video, component and composite are excellant for analog sources like TV - not very sharp at less than native resolution. I was surprised to find you can not select the VGA or DVI inputs for the PIP. So the only way you can see the output of two computers on the same screen is to connect one computer to S-video or component connectors. Lucky for me my ATI card has both DVI and S-video outputs.
Please note I just plugged it in to my DVI port and it worked perfect. Later I updated the generic plug-n-play driver with the HP specific driver. Also I noticed the DOS boot screen does not appear with this monitor using the DVI interface - this must be monitor specific because my last LCD showed the boot screen while using the DVI interface. However I can still see the DOS boot screen using the S-video or VGA interface.

...and uses the same Samsung LCD panel for $100s less. Mine worked great right out of the box and had NO dead pixels. I use it mostly for programming and text is very sharp with both the DVI and VGA inputs. Backlighting is very slightly shadowed near the screen perimeters but doesn't exhibit any coloration effects (Apple users have complained about "pink" panels.)
Because it has a multiplicity of inputs, I can use this monitor simultaneously with my Mac and PC and DVD/cable TV signal - and still have the RGB, S-video and Analog DVI inputs left over! The PIP feature lets me watch TV in one window and use the rest of the screen for my computer monitor great for late night channel+web surfing. My only real beef is the stand - the base is very heavy, but because of the spring-loaded adjustable-height mechanism the panel itself still manages to move around and starts bouncing if I'm really typing hard. 86'ing the spring and using a nice simple manual lock-down screw would have solved this problem. Overall, highly recommended!

Great monitors IF there's nothing wrong with them,

We purchased 8 of these monitors in May 2006 (not from Amazon) for usage with our Mac G5s. They look beautiful, work great and were a great price with the rebates, hence the 4 stars.
HOWEVER, I've sent one back within a month for a bad DVI port and now (Jan07) I've replaced another one that developed a flaw in the display that looks like a "water stain" (for lack of a better description) 2" deep on the top of the display. At least 2 or 3 others are showing signs of this same "stain", but I'm waiting to see if it gets worse. Since they have such a great warranty, returns haven't been a problem, but this is pretty ridiculous.

I don't know if HP has a policy of letting blind people buy their parts but after getting one of these with a broken blue channel (everything was yellow), I had it replaced by another that has noticeable grey cloudiness in the blacks. When I asked for a replacement for that, they sent me an LCD that was hilariously defective, with a large dark band all the way across 1/4 of the screen. Are they getting the dregs that Apple isn't buying or something? I thought that I'd try and save a few bucks and buy this since the Apple is a bit pricey but after all this trouble and the rather cheesy clunkiness of this LCD's design, I wish I had gone with the Apple. I'll never buy another HP product again.

Got this just before Xmas of 2005 when it was fairly new (thanks to a glowing recommendation from Anandtech) and have been extremely pleased ever since. Excellent color and sharpness, no dead pixels in 6 years (that I can see, and I'm pretty anal retentive about such things) good viewing angle, doesnt get too hot or suck too much electricity, plenty of good options in the menu (more than most other companies), nice selection of inputs, can also be used as a small TV. Overall an excellent monitor. Yes there are better displays today but at the time this was considered a top of the line unit and it still stands up over the years. Only downsides are really nitpicks. Sometimes when trying to select between fill screen, fill one-to-one, and fill to aspect ratio I get weird results, but that only happens with a couple resolution combinations and for most of the day I use native resolution anyway. Its nice to play HD videos full screen in VLC and still have a little room at the bottom for the control bar. Its also fast enough for games but I still prefer a high quality CRT for those. Though its nice that this can support proper 1600x1200 for older games whereas a 1080p would be limited to 1280x960 or 1024. Overall a great buy for anyone who wants a high quality widescreen desktop monitor. I got it new, so I cant speak for the used or refurbished models. As cheap as they are, I'd recommend an extended warranty from a company you trust.

How I fixed random flicker with Windows 7,
This review is from: HEWLETT PACKARD (P9615A#ABA) HP Flat panel monitor L2335 U.S. - Engli (Electronics)
After I installed Windows 7 the monitor began to go black for just a second at random intervals. Searching with Google, I found others with the same problem when they have a multi-monitor display as I do. I download the latest video driver for my video card (ATI Catalyst Control Center) but still wasn't able to resolve the problem. The Hz rate was set properly (60) for the 1920x1200 optimum resolution using DVI. The solution was in the OSD (on-screen display), where I turned off the Power Saver and that seems to have resolved the problem. Theory: the monitor was trying to go into Power Saver mode randomly, causing the screen to go blank for a second.

We use this as a TV in our bedroom along with our Home theater system. This monitor is on almost everyday and still goes on like day 1.
