Works perfectly in my Playstation 4. The hard drive presently in the PS4 is also a HGST Travelstar, but is a 5400RPM drive. Please note after replacing the drive, you will need a USB thumb drive that is at least 1GB in order to download Sony's firmware and install it on your new drive. Without a USB thumb drive you will not be able to install the OS.

Also note, that before doing the below you will need to format your thumb drive to FAT32. It will not work in NTFS format.

To make the USB drive compatible, you'll want to add a "PS4″ folder to the freshly formatted USB drive and then put an "UPDATE" folder inside. Drop the firmware you downloaded from Sony into the UPDATE folder and insert the USB drive into the powered down PS4. Then you can start the installation procedure by booting the PS4 with a special 7 second long (or more) press of the power button. With that, the PlayStation should recognize the drive and start the installation. Just make sure you select "Reinstall System Software". The installation of the OS should take about five minutes from start to finish.
After that point you'll need to start fresh with your PS4 -- connect to wireless again, add your PSN account, redownload your games, etc., but everything should go by very quickly since you'll be rocking this new drive.

Please note a SSD drive will also work as a nice replacement to the current PS4 drive.

I recently acquired a used ThinkPad T420 and bought this 1TB HGST Travelstar 7K1000 as an upgrade from the 500GB stock OEM drive. I have a lot of music, videos, and pictures so I wanted a fast, large-capacity HD to store it all without having to lug around an external HD and also leave me plenty of room for future growth. I've always been drawn to the IBM/Hitachi Travelstar line because of their good reliability record and first-class build quality so naturally, this is the first place I look when I'm shopping for a new laptop HD. Originally, I had my mind set on the Travelstar 5K1000 but when I learned there was a 7200-RPM version of that drive, the 7K1000, I decided to go with this model due to the better performance, especially since the price difference between the 5K1000 vs. the 7K1000 was only a few dollars.

As of this review (1/8/13), the 7K1000 is the fastest, largest-capacity laptop HD money can buy. Best of all, it comes in a standard 9.5mm high package, meaning it should fit in the drive bays of most regular laptops (many high-capacity laptop HDs come in thicker 12.5mm high packages that don't fit in today's slimline laptops). I should warn you, however, that it might not fit into ultrabooks, which usually accept only thinner 7mm high drives. Being a high-performance 7200-RPM drive, I expected the 7K1000 to be a little noisier and hotter than a slower 5400-RPM equivalent but to my delight, I found the drive to be very quiet, hardly any louder than the 5400-RPM Travelstar 5K500.B I have in my other ThinkPad. Short of putting my ear directly over the laptop's HD bay, the 7K1000's seeking noises are virtually inaudible. It also runs pretty cool for a 7200-RPM drive, hovering around 30*C even after copying my ~60GB music collection onto it.

My faithful Mid 2009 13" MacBook Pro was starting to run slow and having HD errors. When all the other cleaning and defragging only helped some, I decided to go ahead and do some upgrades after almost 4 years. After reading reviews decided to try this HGST Travelstar hard drive to upgrade from the 250Gb that came with it from the factory to 1TB. Was a little concerned after reading some reviews that the 7200 rpms may cause it to get hot or run loud and require padding, but it is running cool & quiet as a mouse! It was very quick and easy to install using ifixit's instructions ([...]

If you don't already have the tools, I also purchased from Amazon the "Silverhill 20 Piece Tool Kit for Apple Products" (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002O95BJK/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_3) which worked great for me.

I also went ahead and got more RAM while I was in the DIY mode and maxed it out to 8GB with Amazon's "Kingston Technology 8GB Kit (2x4 GB Modules) 1066MHz DDR3 SODIMM Notebook Memory for Select Apple iMac's and Macbooks KTA-MB1066K2/8G" (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001PS9UKW/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_1)

My MacBook Pro is running really quick now and I have 4x the space!

This review is aimed at Mac folks who are interested in mostly write performance of large files / video editing write performance.

--- setup ---
1st off, to test the max write speed under Mountain Lion on my Retina MacBook Pro 15, I'm running this travelstar through a seagate thunderbolt adapter with the bare drive exposed.

1 Partition, GUID table, formatted OSX.

--- benchmark ---
the Travelstar was benched with AJA System Test (OSX Mountain Lion), setting: 10bit-1080p video test with 4GB testing file size, the numbers are as follows:

---
Empty: 121 MB/s write avg.
1/3 full: 107/MBs write avg
---

to give you some perspective, on the same MBP retina, a WD My Passport 2TB (5400 rpm) over USB3 performed as follows:

---
Empty: 110 MB/s write avg.
1/3 full: 90 MB/s write avg.
---

As far as I'm aware, both these drives have the same 500GBs per platter areal density*(see sources end of review), so I believe that the WD having twice the capacity doesn't give it an edge in performance over the travelstar base on areal density.

in then end, even with a thunderbolt setup, the travelstar does not write much faster than a stock 5400rpm WD Passport.

--- noise ---
on the noise front, the travelstar is quieter than the WD and seagate counter parts I have tested (all 7200 rpms). it has a whispering hum i can hear in a quiet room but it's less bothersome to me than my WD scorpio blue's higher pitched hum.
and the seagate drives are louder than both.

--- vibration ---
doesn't vibrate as much as the WDs or the seagates. quite amazingly, i feel the extend of its vibration is quite similar to the 5400rpm of the 1TB travelstar.
