5.0 out of 5 stars The only wooden spoon needed
I purchased one of these some 13 years ago or so, and it would still be going strong, if it had not been washed in a dishwasher before I learned that you don't put wood items in a dishwasher. That caused a split in the bowl of the spoon, but it still worked, split and all, for another 10 years, until recently, when I whacked it hard on another object in a foolish display...

1.0 out of 5 stars Baseball Bat!
This spoon is like cooking with a baseball bat! It's huge (especially if you are a petite woman). I can hardly hold it, and I can't feel the food in the pan. I just aim the bat at the food and thump. I feel like I'm wearing potholders while using this. It's a big huge lump of wood in the pan.

I purchased one of these some 13 years ago or so, and it would still be going strong, if it had not been washed in a dishwasher before I learned that you don't put wood items in a dishwasher. That caused a split in the bowl of the spoon, but it still worked, split and all, for another 10 years, until recently, when I whacked it hard on another object in a foolish display of frustration, and it broke along the split.
What sets this spoon apart, is that it has an actual bowl that holds enough of something to taste or dish. Other wooden spoons, aside from being made of cheap materials like pine, that just will not stand up to heat and moisture, are also good for nothing but use as a stir stick, because they have such a flat shallow bowl, that you can't 'spoon' anything with them.

The beech wood as well as the shape and dimension, made this a winning design in my book.

So I am getting another just like it, this time never to place in the dishwasher, and this time, hopefully, to refrain from unseemly tantrums.

Make no mistake....this is not a spoon for the faint of heart. This is a BIG, thick, (probably as round, in diameter, as the widest part of my longest finger of my hand) spoon. But, it is exactly what I was looking for. I am well satisfied with this purchase and it took me a while to find it and when I was just about to give up on my quest, I decided to "try Amazon.com" and sure enough, there it was. For me, it's a keeper.

I bought this spoon specifically for brewing beer. I needed a heavy long handled spoon for mixing the wort while it boiled and this thing does the trick. It has a thick handle, a heavy spoon and appears to be well crafted. I've only used it with one batch so far but can only assume with proper care it will last me for a long time to come.

Spoon has a good thick sturdy, strong handle that works well in a 36 Qt. pot of soup or stew.

I needed a nice, long spoon for stirring kool-aid and such in a tall pitcher. This is perfect, nice and sturdy. The type of spoon you have forever.

Needed this spoon for homebrewing like others. I will use it when making pralines as well. Seems like a great spoon. Get it if you need a wooden spoon.

Bought this for homebrewing. Works great, although my first dark beer stained it pretty well(adds character). Smooth edges and no cracks, splits, or splinters. Just don't put it in the dishwasher.
